Freesync questions from a noob

I'm going to be receiving a Freesync monitor today and have a couple of questions.

Firstly, am i correct in thinking that in AMD Wattman i should set Vsync to be ON and in each game i play have Vsync OFF in the settings?

Secondly, should i carry on using Displayport or switch to HDMI?
