Hello,

Finally buying a monitor tonight! :) Got a budget of £300 maximum. I would prefer to have 1440p resolution but this amount for a new monitor is making my options limited.

Seems I can have 1440p 60hz with Freesync, or 144Hz at 1080p but no Freesync. There are no monitors in range that do 144Hz with 1440p either.

Is Freesync/G-sync worth it over a 144hz monitor. My budget doesn't seem to accommodate both.

So far I am considering this;

Any help is appreciated.

edit: Ok its not quite 1440p I realize.

The monitor you posted is 2560x1080...

To your question. Is g/adaptive sync worth?

Yes. If you manage to get the minimum fps needed for it to work (eg on 2730Z is 40fps), doesn't matter if it is 41fps or 60fps. It will look smooth.

Is it better to get a 144hz monitor? Depends.
Do you have enough grunt power to make it work? And then comes to, even if you have the grunt power, can you actually achieve it?

1440p vs 1080p 144hz in my eyes depends on the games you play. For example if you are a FPS player then the 1080p 144hz is the better option.

If you are using the spec in your sig you will struggle to get decent frame rates with a 1440p monitor (with proper settings).

What monitor do you have now, what's your desk arrangement, what games do you play, how long do you want your monitor to last?

Tbh, I think you'll find it hard to upgrade to a good 1440p monitor for 300. With the sole exception being the 25'' Dell or refurbished deals.

If I was you right now, I would scrap the idea of getting a new video card and put the money to getting a fantastic monitor.

Then next year upgrade your whole system when the new GPUs are out with a die shrink. You have waited this long to change your card, don't change now just when a die shrink is finally going to happen!!

A really good monitor now will last years.
