I can't recomend a specific PVR as I use an MCE box for watching freeview.
I did used to use an external STB for sky with MCE and something I noticed was artifacts from double encoding, and I imagine you'd get the same with an external HD/DVD recorder, so my preference would be an integrated PVR (can't you actually get a freeview PVR with DVD writer in as well now?)

dunno tbh

i want something farily cheap too :/

I use a topfield 5800, bit pricey but nice features, you dont get interactive services running freeview on an HTPC (wther you want them is another matter), it has a USB port so you can transfer to a pc for archiving if required.

I'll second that opinion on the Topfield 5800

Had mine for a few months now and it works great.

Two freeview tuners so you could record two channels while watching something you have recorded.

There is also a lot of support in the online community for this PVR.

Currently have a Digifusion 145 and love it. Its way quieter than I thought it would have been and so far has been 100% reliable. 80 gig and twin tuner as well so can watch 1 record another/ record 2 channels and watch a previous recording. Only gripe is the tv guide which is slow. Have another freeview box connected separately which has a better guide so use it to locate programmes then record them on the digifusion.

Until about a month ago I had a Digifusion 200 that started its life okay but gradually locked up more and more frequently, which was a shame as I rather liked the user interface.

Replaced it with a Humax9200T that has better picture quality, locks up very infrequently (only while viewing BBCi during the winter Olympics but has a more "quirky" user interface.

I've been using a Humax 9200T for the last couple of months, dual tuner, 160Gb storage and it's work flawlessly. Would recommend it strongly.

Same as him.... :)

The only time I am aware of the noise is when it is in standby and the tv is off. Otherwise its a slight hum. As I said before I was expecting some noise but it has surprised me with its lack off it. Think too many people expect it to sound like a dvd player ie silent but forget there is a fan in it to cool it.

HD PVR for use with Telewest

I don't fancy spending an extre £15 a month on the new telewest box but would like to get a HD PVR. Are there any on the market that work well with Telewest (i.e. will change channels on the cable box for a scheduled recording)?
