Freeview + ??

just found Thomson DTI6300-160GB - Digital Pvr Freeview Inc Top Up Starter

for 97 quid on special offer down from £170.

Any comments onthis one?

I am not bothered about the size, I reckon 80gig would do us if it was cheaper, we won't record much, mainly interested in the pause feature :)

first freeview box that ive had that doesnt crash every 5 minutes as well, hasnt crashed once.

With Sky +, as said you can record two channels at the same time, also you can watch a recording previously made whilst those two channels are being recorded. :)

With the Humax you can even record 2 channels whilst watching a third live channel as long as it runs off the same multiplex as one of the other 2 channels you are recording :)

Had ours for quite a while now and it's bene great.

I have Digihome PVR from Argos.

I also have the same box you can flash the firmware so it allows you to record two channels at the same time instead of the default record one channel at the time :)

Tried a total of 7 boxes with a budget of £100 and this is the best one :)

for infomation on flashing have a look at the digitalspy forum :)

Ellion DTR-850D 160GB HDD DVD Recorder with DivX and Freeview

Just seen this one online and am wondering if anyone knows of any other units with divx capability? As this one gets some offputting reviews.

Cheers,

If you are thinking about getting a PVR and have broadband you should seriously consider getting SKY+ and Sky BB. For £25 a month you get the basic sky package (freeview + sky 1, uk gold, paramount and a few other) and up to 16mb unmetered broadband.

I really wanted to get SKy+ but I live in a block of flats with a communal dish. It's run by a third party called "Spectrum UK" and they handle everything for Sky. They told me that I need two satellite points in my flat for Sky+ but mine has only got one. They said they couldn't install a second one. :(

In the end I got my broadband elsewhere and bought a TVonics DVR-FP250. It doesn't do anything fancy, but it looks great and the build quality is excellent. The UI is better than anything I've tried before (including Sky+) and it's made by a UK company so it supports 100% of the Freeview Playback feature set, including series link. The only real downside is the price - £189 for 250GB.

god dammit!! there is so much choice!

If I'm heading towards the £200 mark im thinking I would like a dvd recorder built in.

Just set up our new Thomson DTI6300-16 :D

Seems spot on so far :D

I've got 28 days to try it out incase I want to return it.

I recently made a freeview HTPC out of some spare pc parts and use media portal with it, works brilliantly. You can pause TV, it has a tv guide, series link, reminders and scheduled recordings which can be set through the TV guide just like sky+, and you can record two freeview channels at the same time plus loads more. :)

Ive never done it myself but you could use remote desktop if you where at work or something to log into your compter at home and set up a recording if you forgot to. This is assuming you have left your HTPC on :p

With the Humax you can even record 2 channels whilst watching a third live channel as long as it runs off the same multiplex as one of the other 2 channels you are recording :)

Had ours for quite a while now and it's bene great.

yeah thats like the V+ box. except the 3rd channel could be any channel, obviously lol. on demand + v+ = win!

OMG!! The Thompson is utter gash!!

It's just made me miss a program I really wanted to watch because it failed to catch the 1st 20 minutes.

Out of 8 programs I've tried to record only three have worked properly.

Complete ****.

Will be returning it tomorrow.

Does anyone know if Amir Khans Angry young men is repeated at all?

Cheers,

G
