7zip

i made these icons for it..

create a folder 'Icons' in the dir for 7zip

extract the contents of whichever version you want to that folder, then either run 32.reg or 64.reg depending on whether you're using 32bit or 64bit windows.

**if you're on 64bit windows, install 64bit 7zip.

run this after setting it 7zip to default to the filetypes, in the Tools, Options menu

i used to have an automated patcher, but until a 64bit commandline freeware resource editor comes out, have to use this reg method :)

I switched to 7 zip last night taking some getting used to after all these years of winrar but I guess it's better than the nag buy pop up you have to close on winrar after a while.

IZarc is my favorate

7Zip again.

Although the 7z format offers greater compression I tend to use ZIP for compatibility. Plus 7Zip is one of the few x64 compatible archivers, and the only free one that has context-sensitive features.

7-Zip.

It's actually faster than WinRAR at extracting RAR archives. Only problems with it are the error messages for multi-part archives don't tend to indicate which part is damaged/missing. It also can't repair damaged RAR archives which have the recovery record.

As cjmUK says, there is also a native x64 version of 7-Zip which improves speed further.

Another vote for 7-Zip, as said already having a native 64bit version is great, I don't see why you'd need anything else.
