ran memtest and that came back fine
reseated everything
cleared the CMOS

specs:
AN52
AMD 5200
ATI 2600 pro
500w PSU
Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2

any advice is welcome :)

Are your boot priorities set up right, mine froze then booted normally after a while, and i found out it was trying to boot Floppy before HDD. Check your BIOS settings and see if boot priorities are correct.

the boot set up is fine, boots from my hard drive

but you know wen it detects the ram and then the devices plugged into it, it locked up when detecting

my old rig used to do that a lot, especially when xp hadn't shut down properly.

just has a little problem when detecting usb devices sometimes.

never found a solution, but doesn't seem to cause a problem.

I have this problem on my new build. Sits there saying 'initialising usb devices' or something and takes ages.

Seriously annoying as mine does it every boot :|

its usually caused by bad bios revision.. i had a asus p5w that didnt like something on the board and took a while checking the rams, but after going through a couple of new revisions, it got faster and faster :)
