Freezing vodka.?

As said the Alcohol doesn't but the other content does. I only stuck some Smirnoff in the freezer to make it extra cold, instead it froze all but the 40% alcohol. Probably made for a pretty leathal drink.

Sorry, but I just burst out laughing. :D

It's the rapid change in extreme temps that does it, rather than warm - freezing - warm. :)

it freezes but just not at temperatures that a normal home freezer reaches

for ages after we got our new freezer we accused my brother of stealing vodka and watering it down because it was freezing in there

then one day we noticed a sealed bottle was frozen too :o was time for apologees and turning down of the freezer after that!

Cold contracts things, glass is made from weak bonds and is very unstable because it can't shrink very well and then it cracks.

It's true that if glass goes from one temperature extreme to the other, it will crack. i.e. hot glass jug going straight into cold water, as my mum discovered :p

But glass at room temperature being put in a freezer won't normally cause it to crack as the change in temperature is fairly gradual. Putting glass bottles (that are sealed) filled with a freezable liquid into a freezer will cause it to crack due to the ice taking up more space than liquid.

Me. Or at least not all the time, a good vodka shouldn't need to be chilled to taste nice although if it is good then it won't hurt it to be chilled either.

As has been said a bottle of vodka in the freezer is highly unlikely to crack, even beer isn't necessarily going to crack the bottle, at uni it was tried a few times by different people and most of the time the cap was just forced off the bottle as if it had fizzed over and frozen.
 
When we were in Lanzarote we put a litre of Smirnoff Vodka in the freezer overnight and it instantly smashed when it touched the hot bench in the morning.

Would be fine in this country though.
 
I heard Oz Clarke (I know vodka isn't his speciality, but still) on the radio saying that Vodka is ideally served from the freezer. Gives it a slightly viscous texture and a different taste.

I deffo notice the viscosity of Grey Goose when it has been in the freezer for hours, about the only strong alcohol I can drink neat :D

No it wont and yes you can oput glass in the freezer. The reason it can smash is water expands when it freezes and as such exerts pressure on the bottle.

However Vodka will not freeze at normall freezer tempratures. So it's not a problem.

For otehr things in glass you just need to leave the lid slightly open while it freezes, then close it again.

why do you want to freeze vodka? the alcohol freezes with the water. So you wouldn't be left with a stronger %
 
The bottle doesn't freeze, but my hand did once when I was pouring the drinks. Like a scene from Dumb and Dumber in our kitchen as no-one could do anything because we were all laughing so much.
 
I had some cheap stuff from Aldi and it turned into a Vodka-Slushi... it was great with a little Orange cordial!... like an Adult Slush-Puppy!!...

I've also had some Polish 'Black Lable' stuff in the Freezer for about a year (I don't drink much) and its veeery nice and cold.. no need for Ice!!.. so it don't get watered down!!..
