Freezing vodka.?

Vodkat freezes solid so I assume most of the cheap vodka's do.
I think vodkat's a much lower alcohol content than most other vodka. The more expensive ones shouldn't freeze in a home freezer, though

Have none of you ever tried reverse distilling alcohol in a freezer ?

When I used to brew my own liquers (from boots kits) - You could get a rough 12-15% liquer which you could then place in a freezer (freeze the water content until it turned to a Slush Puppy like liquid) - then strain it through a gauze to trap the water crystals. You would then be left with a 20-30% liquer (or stronger if you wanted - depedning on how many times you do it - to a maximum proof alcohol depending on the temp of your freezer) ;)

Hardly rocket science is it.....well unless you call it freeze or fractional distillation ;) and for a better explanation of that you better look it up on wiki - becuase I can't be bothered to explain. Just look up Eisbock beer for a crude example.

i had a bottle of absolute and a bottle of Blavod in the freezer, absolute was fine but the Blavod froze, didnt crack the bottle though.

what the hell is vodkat. Google just brings up some party website/league thing..

VERY cheap vodka. Sold in places like Iceland (competitor? :/) for £6 a litre or something like that.
It's a ***** drink really, you see groups of em drinking it at night. tastes rank but being at uni it's better than not drinking and it's cheaper than drinking anything nice :P

Vodkat is a vodka that is about as appetising as bleach. Its vile.
It's about £5 for a 70cl bottle iirc. A few mates buy it, despite being a student I'll still try and get an acceptable vodka (although I guess someone people don't count smirnoff as acceptable :p)

inspired by this thread i've gone and picked up some...

:D

cant wait to slam it in the freezer and try some :p

just the stuff from the supermarket or the freshly squeezed stuff? probably a stupid question :p it smells nice. is the grassy bit in the bottle edible? anyone know?

It must be ediable. but I expect it to have a horrible texture.

I prefer the chilled stuff, non cloudy variety, found in any supermarket.

What?

I've had many bottles of vodka in the freezer and they've been fine, come out nice a chilled.

Beer on the other hand will break as the contents expands when it freezes and the bottle will break...muppets did this at uni.

We did that, but in a can. We had beer icecream the next day :D

It was vile :(

Vodkat is only 20% though isnt it?

I've had a bottle of Smirnoff red freeze in my freezer before. Not ice solid, but a sort of a slush puppy frozen. Smirnoff blue, absolut and grey goose have never done so.
