Hey,

Hopefully a simple question for one of you smart bunch to answer!

I've moved in to a new build property and one thing that bugs me is that the french doors only open so far.

1. Why are they restricted? In case it swings back and damages the other panels?

2. Can I remove the metal strip which seems to be the only restriction?

Any and all help appreciated!

You can remove the restrictors, they just screw in with a couple of self tapping screws. They are there to stop the door blowing right back and causing damage when its windy I believe.

Don't see they wouldn't work as the hinges are external.

They might be friction restrictors as well which will stop them blowing around in the wind so you might want to think about holding them back.

Yep they are friction stays that restrict the door from opening more than 90o. You can buy adjustable ones that allow for 140o opening. I was trying to find one that is detachable to allow full opening when needed but I cant seem to find anything like that. Seems strange as I'm sure that would be a useful feature to a lot of people.

EDIT: Actually I think this has a detachable arm to allow full opening.

Perfect - thanks all.

They seem quite heavy and stiff so any potential wind damage is unlikely! I'll take a look at those on eBay as a replacement just in case.

my french doors (& back garage door) have the friction stays on the top. But they pop off so i could swing the doors all the way back to the wall if I wanted too. You just to remember to put them back on when you close the doors otherwise they will bend the arm of the friction stay.
