I certainly know more than I've actually been directly involved with, and have needed to understand a lot more than I needed for my own personal pursuits... Just like my interests in firearms: It was also quite fun learning about just how much is out there and how good it can be if done properly, but it was also quite upsetting learning just how wrong it can go and how easily it can go wrong.

There's a controversial/internet famous person on Twitter who ran a birthday party for herself recently where a few dozen guys turned up to have sex with her, seemingly while she was being somewhat restrained from kicking/biting them by her partner/friends.

This sort of fantasy is a thing and not exactly an uncommon one, as per ttaskmaster's post it's called "CNC".

Some "kink" can be very prone to legal grey areas if it goes wrong and some kink people can get super defensive about it "don't kink shame".

In addition to the rape/CNC stuff there are also things like "findom" where people consent to being financially abused and the regular consenting to physical abuse stuff "BSDM".

There's even this concept of "aftercare" which can kinda be more like gaslighting the person on the receiving end of the "play"/"abuse" that it's all fine. Obvs some people participate in this stuff regularly and enjoy it but when it goes wrong it can go very very wrong.

I guess in this case we'll have to see what comes out at trial, if they actually knew then that would seem to blow their defence apart. If they didn't then, it's not as absurd as it first sounds, there really are people out there who are into this stuff and yes there could be a real scenario where some guy is arranging for people to come and shag his partner/wife while she's restrained or held down and say fighting back (as per the aforementioned birthday party) etc. or indeed is willingly getting drunk/drugged for it or play acting as if she's drunk/drugged.

would take some pretty heavy drugs to sedate someone for this to go on

I think perhaps in the UK it is not all that rare for young women to go out to raves / nightclubs / pubs, go back to a mans house and be given more drink / drugs until passed out and then the man or several men takes advantage of the situation.
There were certainly many known cases local to me of that happening and I am in a very low population and low crime area supposedly.
There must be loads of cases going on in Cities like London and Manchester on the weekend.
