Fresh install, how to go about it?

Hello all,

So i've just bought a WD 640gb hard drive and a Samsung 1 TB to store files.

I'm planning on a fresh install of vista but am unsure of what order to do things in. I'm planning to use the WD drive to just install applications etc. and so save data onto the Sammy. Does this seem like a good idea? How would you set it up? Would you split the drives into partitions?

The F1 1TB should be the quicker of the two. So I'd have Vista at the beginning of the F1 - 30 GB partition . Apps on the F1 - 500 GB partition? and the rest of the F1 for data, spilling over into the 640GB.
