Also prevents the Yellow River from flooding which has been the cause of some of the greatest natural disasters ever by loss of life- China has 6 of the top 10 deadliest floods and landslides, and the floods of 1931 were the deadliest floods ever, with 2-4 million dying as a result.

On the other hand, it is thought the whole plate that the dam is on is shifting due to the weight of water on top of it held back due to the dam...
