Bit of a story to my picture.

Today I read that the Oxford Dictionary is considering the word "Selfie" to be added to the English dictionary. For those that don't know "Selfie" is the word used when you take a picture of yourself at arms length with a camera or in most cases the camera on the front of a phone.... or in front of a mirror. The article gave tips on how to take the perfect "Selfie".
1. Have accessories (1 or 2) this will make the Selfie personalised - scarfs are a popular one.

2. Use lots of light. If you are taking one in the evening turn as many lights on as possible.
3. Use your "best side"
4. Make sure you angle you head slightly. Straight on shots make it seem to formal.
5. Take the picture fairly close to your face to ensure your hands or arms are not in the picture.

So taking these tips into account. I decided to give it a whirl to help advertise "Selfie". I picked 2 accessories a scarf since it clearly stated they are popular and a pair of Ray-Ban glasses (since their current tag line is "NEVER HIDE", they also seem quite popular pair of glasses). So I put them all on turned all the lights on in the house even the ones in rooms I was not even in because I mean more light = better. I decided my right side is my "best side" since I'm right handed and its easier to hold the phone in my right hand, I then angled my head slightly to the left. Then I took the picture close to might face to ensure no arms or hands where included in the photo. I also thought it would make sense to have the Oxford Dictionary include in the photo, I don't own a Oxford Dictionary book so I downloaded a copy for my tablet. Then as "meme's" are also very popular on the internet I added a tagline too. This is the result of all my hard work and dedication towards making sure "Selfie" gets into the Oxford Dictionary...........

Lots of faffing around for very little payoff.

Then the OED would be wrong as the preferred nomenclature would be autoportrait.

For me autoportaiture peaked in 1656 when Diego Velazquez painted Las Meninas, the painting is from the viewpoint of King Philip IV of Spain, you can see Velazquez on the left of the image.
It isn't just an autoportrait, it is also telling the story of the commision of Velazquez to paint a royal portrait, offering a glimpse into the royal household and many other things besides.

That would be a better picture if it wasn't clearly being taken by someone who was driving. Using a camera (phone or otherwise) takes your attention from the road a lot more than a phone call
