Is that ant upside down? Holding a massive weight?

Could you imagine a massive ant? Be totally sweet.

Wouldn't work unfortunately due to the massive resizing of their leg diameter and such. I'm not sure of the exact result if you were to make an ant human size but I believe it boils down to them just not even being able to move themselves let alone 100 times their own weight. Basically stuff like this doesn't sale linearly.

Would be cool though if it did work.

Its because they don't have lungs, they absorb oxygen through capillaries in their sides, if they were human sized it would be impossible for them to absorb enough via diffusion and they would require a blood stream which they also don't have. The only reason insects got so large in the past was because of a much higher oxygen content of the air, closer to 35% as opposed to 21% now.

You'd run into problems of them having no circulatory system first :p

Without really high levels of oxygen you can;t have massive insects :(

like the massive dragon flies that used to be around when the atmosphere was different.
