Never understood why coal bunkers have an opening at the bottom. It is obvious all the coal will spew out when opened never to be shut again.

There should be a sliding door on it and have you ever tried to shovel into coal? Much easier to slide a shovel under on a flat surface.

today's coal isn't much like yesteryear coal.
