i have just managed to set up a dual boot config on my girlfriends vista laptop, i have got all drivers installed successfully, however its not finding my wireless network.

i can boot into vista and it sees my wlan ok and connects fine, if i boot into xp it does not find any wlan connections and the drivers are installed for the device. in xp i can use the nic on the laptop to connect to my network no problem.

any idea what i need to do to get the xp install to see my wlan

had the same problem at her house could not see her wlan either

is it a built in wireless? can you see it properly installed in your device manager? what wireless card is it?
 
In network connections is the wireless network adapter showing ? also on the laptop there might be a button or slider/swuitch to turn on and off wireless make sure this is ON

yes its showing in network connections, its status is 'not connected, firewalled'

it says on the instruction manual that you can disable the wlan by pressing Fn + F1 key, but this does nothing in vista or xp, the wlan symbol is not on the F1 key as shown on the manual and its not shown on any key.
 
make a connection using the windows xp wireless zero configuration

if its not turned on you can do this by going the

Control Panel> Administrative Tools> Services> and you will find it at the bottom
of the list. double click it with in the list to popup the box options.

set it to auto start and start it up. it should then give you the connection and search
options with in the wifi connection icon by the clock.

there you can search for the wifi connection .

oh yeah you cant use the windows xp wireless zero configuration, if your running any other wifi connection
or wizard software that came with the adapter.

hi m8 i already have the wireless icon by the clock, also when i done as you stated it is already set at auto start up and the status was running.

this is what i have been using to search for the networks
 
could that the Wireless Access Point is turned off in your router. or the
Allow Broadcast of Name (SSID) is off or your wifi adapter isn't picking
up the signal. or even that adapter isn't working right.

if you can try out a different wifi adapter and see if that lets you connect?

its working fine, its a dual boot setup on the laptop and i can boot into vista and the wireless network is working just fine.
 
I could only suggest that the Vista drivers are flaky. Try downloading some alternate drivers from sourceforge. What chipset is your card based on? Amtel, Orinoco etc.
 
i know what it could be, you might be using the wrong key.
i know how you can find out if it is or not.

right click on the connection icon by the clock and repair the connection.
if it doesn't assign an ip then its the wrong key
 
Sounds like flakey drivers just like mejinks said. I probably would look for alernatives.

its a ZyDas - ZD1211B IE 802.11 b+g usb adapter << not suprised your having problems.

Have you got a different make wifi adaptor to try?

I suggest you read the post(s) again. Vista is working fine, it's XP that has problems.

it is on, my pc picks up my wlan no problem, the laptop picks up my wlan when its using vista, only in xp the laptop does not see it.

the laptop finds the wlan no problem in vista its when using xp it does not find my wlan or the wlan at my g/f house.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/at90usb-zd1211/ this is all i could find on sourcefrge and im not sure if it the right driver. i dont know what chipset the card is based on.

i thought it could be this and i copied and pasted the key to make sure it was correct, this does not seem to be the problem, it does not find my wlan at all and it does not find the wlan at her house when using xp, vista is fine suggesting the hardware is working and the router if set up fine

i dont the one on the laptop is built in
