I have done absolutley nothing to my mini for a good month or so now, so it was quite nice to get back into the garage again and do a bit more work to get the car on the road. The wheels started out finnished in a really aweful brushed on white paint, however still a bargain at £80 off the bay with 4 almost new tyres and a 5th spare which i have decided not to paint as its too much hastle. The first port of call was a bottle of paint stripper and a wire brush which i actually did about a month ago. This got them looking like this

Once all 4 wheels were clean of all paint i gave them a good wash to get all the crud off. When they had dried i masked off all the the tyres on both sides. I then went on to degrease the wheels with a clean cloth and some thinners.

The difference that just priming the wheels(3 coats front, 1 coat back)made was brilliant and made them look 100% better. After the primer had set it was time for the gloss black. A good tip for rattle cans is to put them in a sink of hot water to heat and thus thin the paint down, this helps it to make a finer spray and give a more even finish when it lands on the surface.
After the first wheel had been painted black(again three coats for the front, one for the back):

Finally after all the wheels were painted:

They are far from perfectly finnished but for a mornings work and 20 quid i cant complain at the end result.

what is the obsession with black alloys on here recently :/

Nothing wrong with black painted alloys.

Possibly be doing mine soon, been planning on it for a while but keep putting it off.

Yeah it was etch primer, im quite sure of it. And yeah i know the tyres are manky, its the remenants of the old paint, i need to wait for the paint to harden before i give them a good scrum and black the tyres. I will hopefully give them a bit of a polish aswell to get them even shinier

Looking good mate, don't forget to wax them while they're off the car. Get some real hard stuff and give them a good 2 or 3 coats to make sure they're properly sealed. I know you're a lazy sod, but trust me it'll make it easier for you further down the line when you want them clean.

Roll on the birth of the min! (whenever that will be!)
