Friday night FOOTBALL!!!!! (2016/17-2018/19 TV rights)

No, you're wrong. £8.1bn (based on a 50% increase in the overseas live rights) would be the total of just the live TV rights, domestic and overseas.

The overall figure, as I mentioned in the post that you quoted, will include the sale of TV highlights (MOTD), online highlights and other smaller rights. The value of these other packages in the 2013-2016 deal was approximately £500m. The £8.5bn figure I stated was based on that £500m being about the same - it's actually very likely to increase (MOTD are paying just over 10% more than last time) but probably not by as much as the live rights have.

hold my hands up - I had forgotten about online rights (I hadn't realised they were anything like that highly valued.)

I was thinking the 5.1B deal announced yesterday included the whole domestic market including the previously announced MOTD deal , but re-reading the BBC article now it does just talk about the live broadcasting

Football on TV is still very cheap IMO if you want to watch more than just one team. With Sky, BT and terrestrial you basically get EPL,FL72,FA Cup, League Cup, CL, Europa, a bunch of random friendlies, plus a lot of Euro leagues (SPL, Serie A, La Liga, Bundesliga, Eredivisie, Ligue 1 etc), England games etc. I can usually find at least half a dozen matches a month worth watching so even £100/month would be OK. Including travel I've spent more than that on a single match before.

Don't give them any ideas!

The biggest issue here is the 3PM kick offs. Unless you support one of the big 5 or 6 teams you'll only really see your team play when they're playing one of those 5 or 6 teams. If you could watch your team week in week out for a decent price it'd be much better value. As nice as it is to have the option of watching Palermo vs Sampdoria it doesn't really make up for the severe lack of your team. I always laugh when the Facebook pages list where 208 other countries can watch your team live when you're stuck with either streaming it on some crappy stream or waiting until MOTD.

You have everything for £30 a month?

That's what I'm paying just for the entertainment channels. No sports, no movies, no... etc.

How did you get that deal? I've been with them for about 5 years now...

Yea sorry I used a Friends and Family code from MissChief on here. That said, when I cancelled the contract after 1 year they then offered me 50% off anyway so you could try that?

Sky guarantee to show all teams at least three times, something BT can't do. Of course the big teams get more air time.
