Fried Hard Drive..

Hi guys. I've been using OC's since way back in 04-05 I think it was. Although I'm not a poster, I do browse the forums each day. Still use the system I bought (and built) from here back then!

My problem is, I fried my Samsung SP1654N by plugging a molex connector in the wrong way o.O I actually done this..as stupid as it sounds. (YES, I know they are designed to be connected in only one way).

I'm hoping it's just the board i fried and not the whole HDD. It has really important files of mines on there and I really hope I can recover them.

Rather than pay over the odds for a Data Recovery Specialist to recover my files I'd like to try and source an identical HDD so I can have a go at this myself.

Please get in touch if you can help.

Thanks

:)

Ahh.. didn't look at the model no. Thats a 160gb hdd right? Might have to look on Ebay etc.. doubt you'll get that anywhere else. I did the pcb thing a few times, had to get virtually identical hdds with same pcb number. Email any seller you're buying from and get the PCB number and firmware from them as even though the hdd model no. might be the same, it might have a different pcb revision etc..(i did mainly WD hdds, not Samsung)

Also note that even the same exact pcb from the same batch, once used, can be a nightmare on another hdd as its tailored itself to the other hdd during use, SMART allocation, bad sectors etc.. . Its a minefield but doable.

It is yea. I've seen a couple on Ebay - which expired a while ago. I'll try and contact the sellers in hope that they still have the drives which never sold at the time. Thanks for the advice.
