As the title says... only found out last week a good mate of mine plays wow to the extreme..... When i stopped and thought he actually hasn't bothered coming out much to town etc over the passed few years.... anyways i spoke to him this week and he decided to give up his job as it was getting in the way of his gaming time!!

Gobsmacked.... his job was pretty good, he lives with his parents etc so rent and monthly bill’s isn’t an issue!

If i'm honest i'd love to be able to do it but in the real world i need my job to of course pay for the more important things. I think the gaming industry as a whole could makes us all work shy once we get the bug… SHOCKING!

Wonder how long his parents will keep hime for. The guy is an idiot, whenever he is back in job market they will want to know what he has done since his last job. Telling them 'I left work to concentrate on wow' will not cut it. I know i would never employ him.

haha.

He's 26. Honestly if you'd met him you'd be surprised. He actually really intelligent, got a 2:1 in something.. cant remember what.

It just shows imo how deep the public is getting into gaming... even people who have never really been into "gaming" are starting to try out MMORPG's... and lets face they are like crack cocaine

How is he going to pay for the electricity bill and his subscription? Not to mention future expansion packs.

If i was is parents, i would sort him out asap before he decides to harm them for sorting him out.

He doesn't pay anything to his parents. They live in a faily big house so must be ok money wise.

I suppose £80 every 2 weeks will easily cover the subscription and half a weeks dole money will buy the expansion + Mammy and Daddy could always lend him i suppose!

Lets be honest tho wes personally i could easily pull the wool over my parents eyes and make it look like i'm actively looking for work... we're in the middle of a recession which makes it even easier to hide from work!

SHOCKING.

The worst thing of all tbh tho is like in 5 - 10 years down the line when he thinks "hmmm i now want a wife/kids etc" he'll have the shock of his life with no job, no savings, no passed experience.... just has to start from the bottom and work up!!

I love Age of Conan atm, i want to play it pretty much everyday as well as LoTRO for the Summer Festival that's going on, but i'm 22, and i know i have to work to continue playing those games and also for my future.

Technically anyone who lives with their parents could give up work and easily survive on "dole" money if your basic's are taken care of by your parents.

What is he using to pay for the monthly subscription? And the broadband?

Also surely he must pay something to his parents for upkeep?

Oh wait, I just read he doesnt pay anything to his parents, well thats out of order for a start imo. Scavvy piece of scum.

Can he even get the dole? I thought you couldnt claim the dole if you had voluntarily left work?

I have no idea if he is claiming the dole or not, i'm out this Friday and pretty sure he's coming out as its for his best mates bday so i will quiz the bleep out of him!!

On another note.... i never paid any rent at all EVER to my parents. They just made me pass my driving test, buy a car and pay for the up keep... Pretty cool parents actualy lol! Never did me any harm... i'm married now, 3 month old baby girl, have a new 3 bedroom house with garage etc ;)

Who paid for your driving lessons and the car?

Sponging little gits. .

Oi i resent that comment. I bought the lessons and car myself. If my parents had been "getting by" to right i'd have helped out no questions asked... no normal human being wouldn't. However i think my parents thought the best early money lesson they could teach me was to buy a car.... that way i learnt that... a: Loans are BAD news, b: Insurance is a *****, c: no matter how skint i am i've still got to pay for fuel, insurance, loan, tax, repairs etc.... Because of those early lessons i have no car loans or loans of any kind despite the obvious, i put a few quid each month back for emergencies and have an appreciation for saving.

So for that reason i'm glad my parents made me go independent mobility wise (that and my dad wants lifts back and fore the rugby club) haha.

I'm going to tell my daughter when she's working that she either pays rent each month which i'l save for her or get her self mobile.

If you bought the car and paid for the lessons yourself then thats good, for a moment I thought that on top of not paying anything towards upkeep , your parents were also paying for your lessons and car. Which is why I asked.

Still think you should have paid some form of upkeep to your parents whether questions were asked or not, but good to see that you will be making your own kid pay upkeep.

As for your rather immature mate, well...not much to say in his regard is there. A hopeless case I fear. With a bit of luck it will come back and bite him in the backside and leave him destitute in the gutter with not a penny or friend to his name.

Lol of course i paid for everything, i used to get so much stick of people as i'm an only child and the rents were pretty well off, people always used to say "daddy bought that is it?"...NO FUDGE OFF I'M SKINT EACH MONTH TO DRIVE THIS POXY THING ROUND... I WISH DAD HAD BOUGHT IT BUT HE DIDN'T AGGGGRRRHHHH.... i can remember my dad saying to me when i bought the new "S" reg corsa SPORT "Are you sure you want to take a loan out for this"... YES i'm sure...... EPIC FAIL FOR THE NEXT 3 YEARS..... End of every month i can still hear him saying "Haha need to lend some money... TOUGH HA" ********!

But yeah my daugher will have 2 options pay rent or get a car, if she pays rent i'l save it for her and match it without her knowing so when she buys her first house or has her wedding etc i'l say "here".

I cant believe so many people play that game it's not even any good ? has 10 year old graphics and gameplay it's so laughable all these people pay for it lmao let alone even like the game.
It's the bottled water of gaming I could understand it if the game were amazing but it's dated and boring just don't understand why people play it.

I was of the exact same opinion as i'd previously tried it and jumped on the WoW beater bandwagon... however i think the key thing about any MMO is your guild friends or who you play it with... I've just started it and can honestly say i am absolutely loving it... the content is years ahead of anything else out there... and as someone said... if you base your PC experience on GFX alone expect disappointment.

Which content is years ahead then ? the gameplay is dated too it's basically addicted to levelling up and loot because it sure as hell isn't amazing gameplay to point a mouse on a box and click.

As a level 35 with no end game charc's, i play it for the social aspect, also the game draws you in... i mean one min i'm standing in stormwind with loads of players... then next thing i'm standing on some harbour in the middle of god knows where on my own.... and just marvil in the beauty and size of the game.

Game play wise, i enjoy learning the class and getting the gear, the fact they've made it so only a select few actually get mega drops is great! I've played AoC to level 80 and it is nowhere near Wow gameplay wise... each to there own.... the fact 11 million people pay £8 must mean there is something about it!

Whats the name of that guy who is supposed to be the best wow player in the world he's a paladin or sumin?

Sum1 post the video of him.... what a toss pot!

So you don't like it, fair enough. It still baffles me however, how people like you don't see that everyone is different, has different tastes, and likes different things! Ah well, everyone is entitled to their opinion I suppose!

Must say after years of slagging wow off saying... "Bunch of fairy loving hippy crap" i've now learnt what you say to be true.... EACH TO THEIR OWN! dont knock it until you've totally tried it!

Personally i cant fudging wait for JGE (if it ever comes)

BB is only finishing for good in the UK, not globally. :)

All things come to an end though, like Britney, as will WoW of course. At this stage its questionable whether WoW will last as long as UO has, time will tell on that one.

But as Wow finishes something has to take its place!

Guys seriously read this... this guy is so frigging funny:

Yeah, another MMO, who knows what that will be, maybe UO2 if they ever get around to doing it. Maybe Daoc 2. Maybe something Star Wars, maybe a Bethesda MMO, maybe a blockbuster EA MMO, guess we will have to wait and see what comes up. Unlikely I will be playing whatever it is though, think my gaming days will be long past by then :) (unless its UO2, that would bring me out of gaming retirement in a jiffy :D )

What? gaming days passed.... dont kid yourself... we're entering into a world where gaming will be the normal for most people!

No different from anyone wanting to take time off work to do "insert anything in the world".
Sure he hasn't money saved up from his job to pay for food/subs/etc?

Don't blame the guy for liking this and wanting to spend time on it, I'm 25 and expect to travel for a while in a couple of years.

What... time off to travel the world (of warcraft) ? haha!
