Friend has got done for speeding :(

If this is true, then you can argue that there are no speed limit signings - however, I expect there are. What road was it on?

You really really can't use that as defence. It would probably makes things worse. No signs and street lights = 30.

Fair enough.

As has been said, on single-carriageways, if there's street lamps and no speed signs, it's a 30. If there's no street lamps and no speed signs, it's a 60, it doesn't actually matter if there's a sign introducing a new speed limit.

I quite enjoy people driving aggressively behind me if I'm in the right mood.. I find the expression on their faces amusing when I slow down from the speed limit to 5mph under, simply because they're 50cm from my rear bumper. Especially effective when they haven't got a hope of overtaking.

Yes they may be in a hurry, but tbh, I don't care. Not only are they driving dangerously by being right up my bumper, but they're essentially trying to get me to speed.. and I take exception to people attempting to put my licence in jeopardy. If they want to get past fine, but they can sit further back, judge the traffic, and as a result accelerate past me more quickly and easily when there's an overtaking opportunity than when they're sat up my bum.

Hehe I love doing that. The sheer joy that comes with annoying some pompous ass who thinks he can get away with riding my bumper... it's excellent. Bonus points for downshifting the gears so as to decelerate without brake lights. They almost always back way off if I do that. :D

Thing is the speedo must have been touching 70. imo it's inexcusable.

Fed up of chavs thinking they can travel at whatever speed they want.

Yup, and my question was whether they were interested in bans.. as I don't recall whether they asked about points or about bans/points in the last quote I filled out.

Who insured you? Gypo inc.?

The other one is to drive along with a bit of left-foot braking.. just enough to put the brake lights on but not enough to engage the brakes. The funniest bit is the look of shock as they brake hard in case they're gonna crash into you :D Can't do it too often though, the boy who cried wolf comes to mind.

It is only a 60 if the relevant signage is present. If there is a sign saying 40 and no street lights then it is 40 and there must be repeaters. There is nothing that allows you to assume NSLA in the absence of signage to the contrary.

I've been in a situation where I was involved in quadrupling the limit in a 30mph zone once.

Without knowing a lot more it's impossible to say what ban/fine/points combination he will receive. It will generally depend on the magistrates.
