From 60MPH to 40MPH; Gov Proposals

Unless there are speed cams i wont change. Love the country roads round here, only good thing about the countryside. Some really are amazing, hairpins, adverse camber corners, love it, especially when you can safely take the racing line!

I would vote for any party that doenst implement this..of course its ok if its implemented but not enforced!

That was my first thought on the matter - how on earth do they propose to police how people drive on roads that are, by definition, out in the middle of nowhere?

I think the important question here is:

With the legal maximum speed reducing from 60 to 40, should I reduce my maximum A road speed from 150 to 130, or from 150 to (40/60)*150 = 100?

People shouldn't be compelled to drive faster than they feel comfortable doing so

If you drive 40 in a 60 in a single carriageway, straight, dry and clear way and a lorry catches up with you and it had to brake because you are going that slow.

Correct me if I am wrong, if this is a driving test, isn't that a fail ?

Those people should just pull over as soon as possible and let everybody else go past.
no chance to overtake.
Use every RPM or get a faster car :p

I used to manage regular overtakes in my 90 HP Escort, you just had to drop to 2nd at 40, nail it before you pulled out, and just keep it nailed until you were completely past. You could skim past in just a few seconds that way.

I'd say so. And it's also a daily occurrence on my work route. Some sponge travelling at 40 holding HGVs/everyone else up with a huge queue tailing them, with no safe option other than to sit and wait.

TBH 40 on all NSL single carriagways would suck, but it wouldn't make a huge difference to my daily commute.

if you dont feel comfortable driving over 60 you simply shouldnt drive.

the amount of accident which happen because people are not confident in driving is untrue.

Avoiding motoways is ridiculous also more than 1 lane and the roundabout is another amongst people i know.

So are we talking about long clear straight roads or are we talking about twisty country roads? Because the two are obviously different.

A highly subjective fail, but yes, it can be a fail.

Well, there was 2 other cars in front of me, so I was the 4th car in the queue, and about a dozen behind me. There was a gap, and the front 2 cars took it and the corner came up so I didn't make it.

I did over take her on the next straight when I had a clear view ahead.

Then ran into another queue of traffic, which was fronted by that blonde using the phone.

Its a single carriageway, of course there are bends but there are also some long straights which you can see down the road in.
