From Home Theater Kit to proper AVR & Speakers

Everywhere else was so much more expensive!

I actually went back to the MK store today, I decided I didn't want to send the kit back and wait a week as well as have the possibility that they get tested working and sent back to me. All thanks to my friend for driving me there!

It went very well. They were going to test the speakers/amp together with my wires and replace them for new ones, again. I said I'd rather go with two different brands. I'd been looking at the Sony STR-DN1030 along with the Tannoy HTS101s. The manager had a look on the system for bundles and that Sony amp was the first one he came across with those speakers. It was £550, and I had paid £450. He took £50 off so I paid an additional £50 on top of my initial £450.

Done, we didn't need to test the old ones. After getting home and setting up the new amp and speakers, I am very happy! The Tannoys are fantastic, the subwoofer blows away the Wharfedale, and the rest of the speakers sound just as good if not better than the Wharfedales even though they are smaller.

The Sony amp does a great job, and it's very quick to switch between inputs compared to the Pioneer. It's lacking in the GUI department but I can get over that.

The problem I had must have been with the speakers or that combination of speakers. Whatever the problem was, I don't have it anymore with this combo. Finally solved!

Glad to hear you got it sorted mate. Good choice on them there 101's - I love mine, awesome sound stage for such a small set of speakers. The bass can be 'felt' instead of just heard lol. Moving up from a piddly sony 5.1 micro system set of speakers to my Tannoys made a world of differnce - being able to hear subtle sounds not possible before.

Them 101's were actually cheaper than what they sell them now (also more expensive). Couple of years ago they were £499, they dropped to £319 back a couple of months ago but I think most suppliers started to realise their potential and started to put the price back up again, funnily enough just after i'd bought mine from RS they followed suit as all the other suppliers and raised the price of them to £399.

Still an excellent deal at them sort of prices to be honest compared to all the other 'micro' speakers available in this sort of price range. Glad you got it sorted mate.

In a way, I'm glad I had this problem otherwise I never would have got these Tannoys, they are brilliant. I also had a Sony system before, a DAV-DZ260. I'm using a 150hz crossover, not sure what to go with really, what do you use?
