From old to new...

Perhaps a little, but tri-core is a nice sweetspot at the moment. Agreed that a quad-core and a 4890 would be ideal, but no-one's done it within the budget yet!

What  my spec was a couple of quid over and with a 4890 it is actually under budget, see below

Was a pound over with a GTX260... I didn't realise that 4890s had got so cheap! Your latest spec is definitely what I'd go for.

That spec is brilliant for my price range and most likely what I'll be going for.

In terms of the future, are Amd due to release any new Cpu's such as an 975BE etc etc? As if they are then I may be tempted to hang on a little longer for one of them. For anyone who wonders why I seem to favour Amd its actually because I've never had an Amd system before and would really like to spend the next few years getting to grips with an entirely new system, e.g Amd and Ati Radeon instead of Intel and Nvidia.

thanks a lot for the help anyway.

Its not really getting to grips as they both operate in near enough the same way. The only real difference is the performance. On the note of future releases, yes they are going to be new CPu's next year, not just from amd but intell too. But if you keep holding out for better things you will never upgrade as there is allways practically something new coming out or about to come out. Go with the I5 spec, its sick and will last you a good few years :P
