From XP to 7

7 seconds to open a folder?! Definitely something wrong. My Win7 machine opens folders instantly, just like it did on XP.

Is this quite low-spec hardware that's been upgraded to 7? A lack of RAM in particular will make 7 feel slow compared to XP. A system with 0.5-1GB will do basic stuff pretty well under XP but will be a dog under 7. Once you get more than about 1.5GB in there, 7 will be at least as quick.

No , its on several dual boot systems (with Xp32 and win7 64 bit)
specs: q6600 @ 2.4G with 4Gig ram
dual core 1.86 @ 1.86 with 4Gig ram
i7 920 @ 3.6Gig with 6Gig ram

Same hardware and same network but totally different results between both OS
AV was disabled to ensure it was not getting in the way

I admit that I do still have the occasional moment where I try to do something how I'd have done it in XP or Vista. But I think it's down to sheer force of habit after nearly 15 years using the old Windows taskbar, rather than because the old interface is better!

Change is a horrible thing. (then again remember how great win95 used to look?)

Forgot to say to the op..one thing that really annoys me about win7 is any windows you open don't seem to remember their size...if you size one window, it will size any other to the same when you open it...(or am I the only one who still has this prob?..if not hope that sp1 being mentioned on here fixes it...providing ms has listened to complaints....)

That would be Experiences , plural , currently trying out several win 7 machines
on a corp network ....

I deal with several W7 machines at home and lots with work. They all run better than XP ever did. Some of my users came from OS X and XP and I have had no complaints at all about performance. And these are the type of people who complain about everything! :p
