Front Door Recommendations please

Door was 400
Oak for frame 300
Sacrificial door for side 90
Pas 24 winkhaus mechanism 90
5 star cylinder £60
5 star handles £40
Letter box lol £40
Cill hinges etc £50
Joiner £600

Minimum you should be asking is pas24 or secure by design.

£400 seems great value, considering the quotes are £2000-3000 but that does include side windows which if we keep what we have and just replace the door would save a good chunk of cash and give us 99% the look we’re after.

Does the door come with a handle or locks or can those be purchased separately and as such I can fit the high-end locks been mentioned and also a large exterior bar handle and just a thumb unlock on the inside? Sorry if daft questions.

It’s a complete blank nothing included not even a finish so you’ll need to allow a couple of days to osmo oil it then another day in six months to give it one more.

It’s a proper door it feels like it’ll be there forever not 5 years with a £700 door. However it is timber and needs maintenance and probably adjusting once in a while plus decorating every 5 years or so.

I've had three replacement Rockdoor Ultimates as each one has warped. Central mounted between two glass panels so maybe the frame wasn't strong enough.

Moving home so someone else can worry about it now, but I wouldn't have another. Although it does look really good. Irish oak too.

Gibbo, now you've received some serious advice can you tag in us morons who want to question the taste/style? :D

Haha nope as style is personal I just wanted to hear feedback on various brands and get recommendations for suppliers and fitters in my local area. :)

I think lots of the problems come down to poor fitters, i've hard three ultimate's one elite and one select on 3 houses with 0 issues other than a realignment after 3 years, which was done for free.

Likewise my parents have had about 3 Rockdoors one being a large double door, again 0 issues.

Just a word of warning, if you decide on solidoor it may not be available until well after Christmas. My wife and daughter own a pre school nursery and I am in the process of getting some quotes together for an old wood door to be replaced with a composite door. All the surveyors are telling me if I place an order now don’t expect it to be installed before February 2022.

Our neighbour who has done a lot of building work for me has confirmed he has Solidor and is happy, he also gave me his trade account number to get some prices and he will fit whatever we want and do required work, so that is handy, just need to decide what we we want, place the order and then wait the long wait. :)

Hi there

Am looking for a new front door, thinking modern and was looking for recommendations on what others have had fitted and are happy with.

Was looking at Solidor being a local manufacturer but reviews seem somewhat mixed, also Endurance doors but long leadtimes.

Is the kind of style / colour I am looking for, any recommendations please for suppliers / fitters in the Midlands / Northwest area?
These doors look nice (with this type of handle) but step outside and let it close behind you and you’re essentially locked out.

Had ours installed 18 months and never happened - the lock / arms are in the locked position MD even if the door swung back on itself with some force it would close without turning the thumb screw

Any update on folks who have recently had doors fitted?

Looking to get front and rear swapped. Rear potentially a stable door to replace the (error on my part) pine one I fitted...

I was looking at a Solidor until a friend in the trade told me that their registered fitters gat the doors at £450 and charge £1700. - £1250 for 1/2 days fitting is taking the P, I dont care how good their doors are. A local fitter was doing them for £1200 fitted, but when Solidor found out, they threatened to refuse supplying him, he is now £1700 like all of the other fitters in the area.

still waiting for my upvc version of the first last door with four panes (insurance replacement ) now looking like march 1st onward from november last year order parts of the hardware still tied up in germany......

before you say it i know its not in the same league door wise but the company are a national company and last conversation i had they said they were almost at a standstill waiting for parts (door made no hardware)

on a positive note im getting very good at unscrewing the wooden battens and screwing them back when parcels are delivered:)
