Hey all.
I would like to get my front garden fenced to:
- Improve looks of house
- Keep kids and dogs off
- Stop the slob next door (I made a thread a while ago about no rear window in car) driving over it
- Put plants in without getting trampled on

How much would it cost to fence down the right hand side of my front lawn, across the front up to where my driveway starts.
I would like a gate where my steps are.
The style I would like is the same as my neighbour (other side of semi paid for his fence panels).

I have a local business quoting me tomorrow.
I have 3 weeks off in 2 weeks time but am a DIY novice, but willing to try.

if its pressure treated timber it wont rot

and just lay it back from the edge a bit so he wont catch it with the car?

you could square the corner off with the fence? cut across it and maybe plant some plants in the triangle of grass that's left? or screw a big flashing beacon to the corner:D

if he hits it he'll have to pay for it haha

His rear window has been missing for 7 months and has a repeated flat tyre.
Seriously doubt it has an MOT.

Back on track....any ideas of cost for fencing in his style?

I don't know, best way is to ring round few local fencing firms and ask them for a quote

idk whether they come out and measure up ect probably do

If you're worried about one corner just ask them to beef up that particular timber and concrete it in double depth.

My old house had a covenant restricting fencing to the front of the house. Check you aren't wasting your money.

Whatever you think the cost may be, double it. My experience with tradesmen. Always cheaper to DIY if you can handle a job like that.

Covenant or no covenant, I doubt anyone will enforce it now. The houses look like a possible 80s housing estate judging by the square gas boiler flue next to the car with no window. The house builder will be long gone now.

Of course it's cheaper to diy, a big chunk of the cost on most jobs is labour, or do you expect tradesman to work for nothing?

The only chance I can see of anyone trying to enforce it is if it puts them out.

Like your neighbour finding their drive is irritatingly narrow if there isn't open ground to the side of it... ;)

Even if he didn't put a fence up, there would be nothing stopping you having a boarder around the garden with some plants in which the neighbour wouldn't be able to drive over for extra space. Unless the covenant says front garden must be grass only also.
