Front panel audio ports not working

I am having trouble getting my front panel audio ports to work.

I have the Aerocool QS-180 case, and a MSI Z170m Mortar motherboard.

The front panel plug is connected to the motherboard, but I am going to triple check, as I tidied up the cables last night and whilst I'm positive I connected it, it may be loose or something?

The Realtek HD Audio software does not detect anything being plugged in to either the headphone or mic port. The software does recognise things being plugged into the motherboard ports.

I downloaded and installed the drivers from the MSI site, so I assume they are the latest.

Any ideas?

Double check it is connected properly and the HD audio is connected rather than the ac97.

Also check that HD audio front panel is selected in the bios over ac97. :)

Sorry, what's the "ac97"?

The back ports (which I presume use the Realtek drivers) work fine, so wouldn't that mean the board is using the Realtek HD?

Didn't know you had to enable front panel stuff in bios to be fair, I'll check that.

Well most cases (at the time I last built a pc anyway) had connectors for two different sound card types. You have to plug in the right one, they are usually on the same cable but with two heads coming off it, if that makes sense. In your case you'd need to connect the one labelled HD audio into the motherboard input and double check its enabled in the bios.

So, I'm a total idiot.

I checked the front panel connector whilst re-seeting my RAM into the correct dual channel slots, and I had only plugged in the plug on the top half of the pin header haha!

Re-connected it, and it works perfectly.

:)

haha, well now you've done it once you won't do it ever again :)
