Front Road Bike Light

Yeah, it's annoying. I tend to turn my Cree off when approaching riders along the canal as it is pretty bright with no other lights around. No one has ever done the same in return sadly.

Someone needs to invent a cheap light with a high beam switch accessible from your normal riding position.

For all their other faults, my old SolarStorm X2 had a very easily accessible switch. It's a shame I never got round to trying to mod it to make it less blinding for other users (and the multitude of other annoyances of course).

uv has recently got an 800 lumen torch for about £35 from Amazon which seems pretty good on that front. He's had to add a hood to make it less antisocial but it's bright, usb-rechargeable and uses only a single 18650 battery built into the main unit. Battery life seems pretty decent in medium mode too (which is about 400 lumens - and actual lumens - compares favourably with my Lezyne in high).

Bought this Smart 700 about 3 weeks ago and I'm very happy.
After I bought it I found out that a lot of my (more serious) road cycling mates use the same one.

Thanks for the suggestion. Is the battery replaceable?

AXA Greenline 50, plenty bright enough and has a proper shaped beam for road use. You'll have to order it from the germans though.

Magic Shine Lights

I swear by these. Large batteries. Comical brightness (think main beam on cars). Super easy to mount with rubber O rings. Can be fitted to bars or helmets. And brightness can be adjusted from an illuminated switch you can mount to your bar\stem. Perfect.

The main light with a main beam and two floodlights is amazing for unlit country lanes etc.

Cateye Volt series are recommended, Leyzene as well. I run a Moon Xp780 superceded now by some other model. Plenty enough light for road use in fact more than enough even on medium power. All those chinese cree front ights purporting to have a gazzilion lumens are bright alright but blind every other f....r on the road and generally are of crap quality as well, been there and have the t shirt.

Superceded by the Moon LX670? I just got one a few weeks back. Nice and bright and the range of brightness levels is also very useful.
