Frustrating issue.

Hey guys. I have just re-built my computer and I'm getting a really frustrating problem. I get random crashes, some times they're frequent, some times they're far apart. It's not like any crash I've had before. Windows just locks up, unable to move my mouse or Alt+Ctrl+Del and a weird sound comes over my speakers at max volume, it sounds like loads of static, but worse? When this happens I have to reboot.

All my drivers are up to date, temps seem fine. Should I just re-install Windows?

I don't get any BSOD's and nothing shows up in the event viewer that seems out of the ordinary, any suggestions on how to get to the bottom of it?

ASUS M5A78L LE Mother board
AMD Phenom II x4 955 Black Edition CPU
Kingston RAM 4GB - Unsure of exact model, bought them a year or 2 ago
Saphire HD 7770 Ghz Edition
Corsair H60 Cooler
Not sure about HDD, Hitachi is the model
HAF 922 Case

I've reinstalled them 3 - 4 times. It doesn't just happen when I'm gaming, it can happen when I'm reading reddit, or watching youtube :| Should I try an older driver or the BETA one?

who knows ><
should run faster after a clean install, if it still happens then u can look at hardware
u not overclocked tho right?

It's a fresh install though. I think I'm having a driver conflict or issue. I've just updated my soundcard driver because I think that was a 32bit driver. If that doesn't fix it, I'll nuke the hard drive and reinstall everything in the morning. I was overclocked, I went back to stock straight away when it started happening.

When you say you rebuilt your system what did you do? D'you have a spare hard drive that that you could try rather than nuking all your settings? Have you reseated all the plugs and cards onto the mobo? If you suspect it's the soundcard have you tried running your system without the card?

I had the same symptoms you described once and it was a heat issue due to fan not working. Does it lock up randomly or is it when you are stressing your system ie running a game?

Just writing ideas as they are coming :)

I'm starting to think it might be a heat issue. Last night it happened as I was watching Netflix, I rebooted, it kept happening again every 15 minutes or so. The weird thing is, I've been playing Guild Wars 2 and Deus Ex all day and it only happened once. Then late at night it was more frequent.

When I rebuilt, I added a H60 and the HD 7770 and put everything in a new case. All the fans are working, Maybe it's because my PC is under my desk?
