FSR 3.0 + frame generation looks like it could become a big deal

Yes it’s from TCL but no it’s not speculation. It’s definitely expected there will be updates to the Xbox and ps5 next year. Of course until we see official info from Sony or Microsoft anything could change by then. However this is not some YouTube “expert” rumour mill.
Like the switch pro....

A TV manufacturer trying to convince people 8K is going to be a thing, say it's not so.

ai accelerators are on rdna 2 cards btw as some thought it was just rdna 3 cards.

hmm, amd now says they were ray trace accelerators but im sure they were called ai accelerators before when i bought it.

Ps5pro and xbox x pro aint happening. Most people in the industry already know that, at least no chance of 2023/2024.

Ps5 production still isnt up to par to satisfy demand and won’t be anytime soon and you think pro is happening? Nah

Also lol at 8k. Most things arent 4k yet and if you also bring RT in the mix especially on AMD hardware its gl with that.

Nobody serious thinks there'll be new major* versions of the PS5 or XBSX next year. We do know Sony doesn't expect this console generation to end until 2027, so I wouldn't completely rule out a mid-cycle refresh in 2024/25, but there's still pent-up demand for those consoles in their existing models, even as the supply shortage eases. Plus most games development - including first and second party - remains cross-generation for now.

* Of course, minor hardware revisions that don't materially affect performance are always possible.

It will be interesting to see if frame gen becomes available even for previous gen AMD and Nvidia cards, via FSR 3.0...

It will be interesting to see Nvidia squirm due to their earlier statement of not supporting FG on older cards due to hardware requirements IF AMD manages to make it work on pre 7000 series cards :D

Without a doubt it will be supported. It’s open source and runs on all graphics cards. It’s also what consoles will be using so developers will have to add it to most games.

This gens consoles won't unless they have some super secret hardware on the silicon.

Well it is a gimmick, it is an illusion stacked on top of the other illusions of videos games and it tries to give you back performance after you completely trash the performance by running ray tracing and 4K.

However you slice it we're getting these compromise technologies to cover up the fact that gpus simply aren't fast enough for the image resolution and graphical settings that are being promoted.

So in a way.... there is no spoon ? :D

I think both companies will want ppl to upgrade, unfortunately. It's a big selling point.

Maybe it might be worthwhile for AMD to offer it for RDNA2 cards, if possible. But it seems unlikely.

Yeah it's not a great time now to launch new high end hardware in this recession.
Nintendo already cancelled their Switch Pro after developing test models for it. And Sony which promised 8k videos and gaming is acting like they never said anything because no one is buying 8k TVs

And now the average consumer is no longer willing to spend high end GPU money as we see Nvidia and amd GPU sales volumes flop.

Going forward, new electronics need to be focused on delivering better value and lower prices and that does not lend itself to rapid performance enhancements which makes things like pro consoles difficult to do because you can't deliver a large enough upgrade to get sales without charging crazy prices.

Sony also picked the wrong time to launch their new VR headset in February 2023, that thing is going to tank so hard because it's priced 50% too high for a recession

Why does anyone actually want fake frame generation - it doesn't improve actual frame times / latency, so it'll still be a laggy mess, or are we all console players happy with TV's with 100ms input lag all of a sudden?

120fps with 16ms latency looks better than 60fps with 16ms latency

Until you try it don't dismiss it, yes latency isn't changing but the motion happening on the screen looks smoother to your eyes so there is still some benefit

Have you tried Frame Generation ? I mean actually tried and not just watched a video about it and/or talked about it on the forums ?

I know you religiously monitor your stats, FPS, Latency etc... As I do too, Would be interesting if you did a blind A/B test.
I’d be mortified if I got it wrong.

However it’s pretty easy to tell, any rapid camera movement and you can feel the latency and artifacts can become Visible.

I’d rather less focus was put into
Image reconstruction and fake frames and more time was spent optimising software and improving hardware performance personally.

That sadly isn't happening anytime soon and I know the people with the usual comment "People always blaming unoptimization" but so many games come out now that don't use the hardware available well enough and on PC especially devs rely on brute force.

As for image reconstruction, I will say DLSS really does help in some games by getting rid of aliasing/pixel crawling, Crysis 3 Remastered even at 4K is one, I did a few before and after takes and aliasing/pixel crawling with DLSS set to Quality is markedly reduced.
