Hi,

I would like to set up an FTP server where I work seeing as we have 100mb down and 50mb upload. We are a charity/university as well; so could use some not for profit programs.

We would also like it to possibly authenticate with our active directory and have a method that allows "guests" to login as well.
We would also like a script to run that deletes files that are say older than 30days - could anyone point me in the correct direction for this as well.

Any suggestions would be great!

One requirement I would really like would be for a "user" that is an AD (active directory-they are not admin either!) user to be able to say create a new user so that someone from outside the site can log onto the FTP site with a dynamically changing password - that last for say 48hours...

Is there a tool/script out there to do this whereby the e-mail the script/tool and it is then done?

Thanks

we use Serv-U as our FTP server as we found IIS didnt have all the features we needed (like user folder segregation, up/down ratios, scheduled dir nuking, bandwidth throttle etc etc). Been using it for about 5 years without any catastrophe. It might be that IIS has caught up but I havent bothered to look.

I don't follow, you want someone logged into the FTP server to create an AD user?

Sorry I lost you; no I want an AD user to be able to create a temporary login for say 48hours so that they can give temporary access to someone who does not work for us. Like a generic username and password - just temporary.

If you want AD integration then just use IIS.

Otherwise just use one of the many FTP server solutions out there and use the built in user administration tools.

Make sure anonymous / guest access doesnt have write access.. otherwise you may find yourself hosting the latest movies and games :o
Also consider enforcing some sort of encrypted login for domain based credentials
