I have been waiting nearly 4 years for it to reach our area where my work is located. I do not know why it has taken this long as everywhere in my town has it but the checker finally says this..

We're installing the new fibre cabinet and laying the fibre cables to serve your home or business.

does anyone know how long it can take before they start work and get it up and running? I have seen no BT vans on the road yet or installing any cabs or doing any work

If you've not even seen work start or the cab appear, then your guess is as good as anyone elses...

In my last 2 experiences, when my mum's place had a FTTC cab installed a few years ago it was early January, by the end of the month we could order. At my own new place just over 2 years ago, when the cab went in, 3-4 weeks later I could order.

It also depends what issues Openreach come across, if any... I know my cab took another week or so, as they had to get the power grid company out to sort power for it. There are all kinds of red tape and issues that can come up for OR when deploying new cabs.

At least it has moved on the checker its stayed the same for years lets hope there is no problems and gets installed quickly! I will be keeping an eye out on the street

All you can do is look for the street cabinet if you know where your line goes. I could order a month or two before BT updated their tracker (TalkTalk and Plusnet listed the line as enabled but BT didn't) and started advertising that is was available.
