Fttc now available in my area

Chances are those around your area has jumped to fiber so that freed up some resources for your ADSL connection. As for why the FTTC estimate has gone slightly down, I guess it's probably closer to what people are actually getting based around those in your area, as well as possible slight congestion.

As for why VDSL is showing no benefit for you, due to the way it works VDSL after a certain distance rapidly drops down in speed, while ADSL works better on long lines, so your line is basically long enough to see ADSL being better than VDSL. You'll probably have to sadly wait for LR-VDSL which Openreach is hoping to use to completely replace ADSL for better speeds. I'm waiting for the same thing as well, noticed over the years my speed is now 38mb minimum, 6mb drop from when it was just rolled out a few years ago. And with everyone in the house streaming in full HD, it doesn't help :p.

Although saying that, at that distance I would still expect at least 20mb odd, unless you're living in a home with aluminium phone phones.

i am pretty sure I am around 2 miles away from the cabinet. My fibre speed is max 50mbps which i get 45mbps sync.

Very unlikely.

Very unlikely.

Don't try using accepted facts and logic on him... he'll phone BT and complain that you said he was wrong. He's already been on the blower to HP because I dared to say I run 8TB drives on a product not certified for them :D

For the OP I had similar issues in a rural property, in the end I did a little digging to see where I was provisioned from, it turns out a much closer cabinet existed and after a little negotiating with OR's network team we had the lines re-provisioned (for a price) as they ran through a building that was in the process of being refurbished to get to us. Also look at choosing a router that's more suited to longer lines, Billion used to allow manipulation of line stats that could give some significant improvement to speed.

where is your facts and figures? i don't see you putting any REAL figures out there and only inflammatory BS. see my line distance to cabinet and I wish you can stop your utter rubbish for good. absolute clown!

Very unlikely.

unlikely or not, the real world stats trump graphs all day long! unless there is a wormhole in my neighbourhood, then i would think the stats are just hypothetical worst case

my home is 2.7km from the cabinet which is just under 2 miles.

Your distance to the exchange matter not for FTTC, it's the distance to the cabinet. To get 55Mbps your cabinet is likely to be only a few hundred metres away.

i see the local cabinet is the line. according to my local planning search, the cabinet is 500m away

Yes, FTTC is to the cabinet (that's what the C stands for), not the exchange and as you've clearly just realised you've got it wrong again. The only time the exchange distance comes into play is if you were on a direct to exchange line. Now, you were saying something about inflammatory BS and clowns?

Without wishing to upset your overly delicate ego, this isn't he first time you've called someone out because you disagreed with them in the face of quite obvious and accepted facts and logic because of flawed assumptions or poor understanding on your part. Non of us are infallible - myself included - but if someone has taken the time to point out that you're mistaken, then it's usually a good idea to at least check your reasoning before resorting to petty insults. This is OCUK, BS and a bad attitude don't impress anyone - unless you at least make an effort to master sarcasm and humour :D

This is bizarre. I had the exact same argument with a guy in the pub the other night who didnt realise that the local cabinet distance was the figure that mattered not his exchange. He wouldnt back down either :p

Please tell me the phrase 'inflammatory BS' was used, ideally with some reference to clowns and it happened in the Arnos Grove area? I'm not sure what would disappoint me most about that, that PC Guy actually has some form of social life or that more than one person is attempting to apply ADSL principals to FTTC connections and proclaim opinion as fact. Either way you need to consider where you drink more carefully - it could be contagious ;)
