Quick question, My exchange is due to be enabled some time next year for FTTC. I was on the BT wholesale checker and as I get my phone through sky I used the post code checker and got this:

Your exchange is ADSL enabled, and our initial check on your postcode indicates that your line should be able to have an ADSL broadband service that provides a fixed line speed up to 1Mbps. However due to the length of your line the 1Mbps service may require an engineer visit who will, where possible, supply the broadband service.

Our check also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL Max broadband line speed of 2Mbps; typically the line speed would range between 1Mbps and 3.5Mbps.

Our check also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL2+ broadband line speed of 2.5Mbps; typically the line speed would range between 1Mbps and 4Mbps.

Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed between 28.7 to 31.5 Mbps and upstream line speed between 6.2 to 7.2 Mbps.

The actual stable line speed supportable will be determined during the first 10 days of use. This speed may change over time, to ensure line stability is maintained.

Thank you for your interest.

Great I thought, looks like I can get FTTC when my exchange is enabled.

However, I tried it with the address checker and the bit above highlighted in bold was not there. Does this mean my cabinet will not be upgraded?

Thanks in advance

Address = postcode?

Your postcode might be served by several cabinets.

I am aware of that. What I mean is when I just put my postcode, I got the message above, when I was more specific, ie putting my whole address in, house number and street as well as postcode, the extra info about the fttc was not there.

So my question is still does this mean my specific cabinet for my address will not be upgraded?

that's the way i would read it tbh, giving it more details on the address ties it down to a specific cabinet/exchange i would imagine.

Sorry, I misread the first line.

Search for your postcode in the following document and let me know what the result is.

sorry to bump in.

i just checked my postcode and according to this document i have this result: A299278 LSFOR FOREST HILL SE26 4BG {LSFOR}{p36}0 100 3.82 5b Yes FTTC

Can someone please decrypt this for me ?

according to bt infinity webchecker my cab was due on the 1st of july but now has been postponed to 30 september.

Right done that and came up with this:

Any idea what that means?

Thanks in advance

100% of premises in your postcode area are connected to cab #9, so it looks like you can already place your order for FTTC! :)

That means 100% of premises in that postcode area are connected to cabinet 36 (if you look at local cabinets you'll see they're numbered), on FTTC you'll achieve an average download speed of 3.8x the average you currently receive.

Well thats annoying. I already knew my exchange is getting fibre enabled in september, but according to that spreadsheet my cabinet is not.

Who do i ring to complain about this?

I want fibre:mad:

That spreadsheet is only for exchanges and cabs that were FTTC live as of April 2011.

Looking at the spreadsheet it seems 25% of premises in your post code are connected to cab #3, where the other 75% are connected to #5.

LSDOW DOWNLAND CR5 2LN {LSDOW}{p3} 0 25 3.56
LSDOW DOWNLAND CR5 2LN {LSDOW}{p5} 0 75 3.48
Do you believe your cab to be #5?

[edit]Ah apologies, I missed off the 'deployed' bit, so yeah it seems you may not be getting FTTC :(

I have no idea which cabinet i'm on! but according to that neither of them are fibre enabled correct? (or am i reading that wrong)

Can you make sense of this for me.

SSKMD,BATH KINGSMEAD,BA2 6UY,{SSKMD}{p39},0,97.67,12.07,5b,Yes,FTTC

I'm on Cabinet 39, but the rest I don't understand.

Basically, it's formatted as:

Exchange name (search samknows.com for more information on your exchange, using this string)
Area
Postcode
Cabinet number
'exchange' (ignore this bit)
Percentage of customers in 'x' postcode connected to that cab
Uplift (a kind of multiplier, compared to the average sync customers receive on ADSL vs what they're likely to receive on FTTC)
Phase (BT FTTC install date) / Deployed / FTTC, Google these terms

Stupid question (hypotheticly) .. But say if you flashed enough money at BT would they install it do you think? Or would they not be interested.

(Sorry about posting this in your thread but i was just wondering).

You'd have to pretty much offer enough to pay for the kit and the engineers (assuming they can spare them from ongoing deployments).
I can categorically say, it won't be worth it :)
