FTTP installed, best power line adaptor solution

on another floor, a fair distance, yes it is 5Ghz

The speed and latency deteriorates very quickly the further and further you get.
Another floor is fine where you're still relatively close to the router, but when you're going through multiple walls your speed starts tanking.

It's upto OP to decide whether 5Ghz would be suitable for the distance he is covering, if it is not, we're only talking about 2.4Ghz.
And by no means should you expect stable latency with 2.4Ghz & and definitely not the throughput that he'd expect.

OK guys, I have read all the suggestions and didn't want to run cabling but deep down knew it was the only answer. Power line adaptors have worked well in the past giving me my full 30Mbp/s across my home.

My router is near my front door. So I will install a faceplate internally, run cat6 externally up the wall where it will be clipped. Then back in to my sons bedroom and again terminated into a face plate. Two ethernet cables then to be connected to the router and pc from the face plates.

I already have a cable running up the external wall for where my fibre cable is installed anyway. Also I have a Network crimp tool and accessories, so can terminate the cables myself.

Good man.

It is worth it as powerline plugs are just unreliable at the absolute worst time. I have no idea how they manage it

When I get my Gigabit installed I was thinking of using Power lines, but have decided to just run a Cat6 cable from the router (downstairs front room) up the stairs, into the back back bedroom and then plug directly into the PC's LAN port. Can't be arsed with installing faceplates and the like. Will have to get 'flat' cable though as it has to go under two doors and also a length of carpet.
