[Fud]Nvidia's next gen, will be hotter than the GX2

for nvidia to pull an ati, thier new card needs to pull high power consumption, provide low performance and run hot and noisy. if those conditions are met then we have the successor to the 2900.

but if its the fastest single gpu card out at the time then it doesn;t matter about the power consumption and heat i suppose AS long as its performance is top notch.

When it comes to a single card, all that matters now is fps, not cores. If there is a single card, multiple GPU solution that kicks it, it's going to lose face with the high end users.

What does a single G92 GTS get to underload, now imagine how hot the GX2 will get to seen as its 2x of them, and now they rekon their next gen single GPU will be even hotter than that, its got to be huge cooling, and loud. :p

Well they've been in discussion for a couple of weeks now, looks like they gona go with these. :D

A myth that's been repeatedly disproven.

provide low performance

I wouldn't call faster than the G80 GTS "low performance".

and run hot and noisy

Not sure about the heat but it certainly wasn't a noisy card. Another myth.

Not really, no. The 2900 I had must have been a special, cool running, quiet edition then. Funny, it looked just like the reference design.

And it doesn't really matter how hot a graphics card gets IMO. It's all about how the heat is shifted.

Sounds like another 5800 Dustbuster then, if is hot and loud. I think Nvidia learnt the lesson with the 5800 and so will make sure the cooling is quiet. I don't think will be silent but should still be acceptable.

the 8800 series got hotter than the 7800 and 7900 series, and yet was a run away success. As Tute said above, it's all about what you do with the heat, and how the product can cope with it.

I'm confident this will be a top product.

somehow i doubt it will be. we never got to see G90, all we seen was G92, and apparently G94 will be the 9600gt.

so why do i think the G90 will be a 24rop version of the 512mb GTS with a 384bit mem interface?

Yeah, but i suppose that if it was the same price, that would still be quite a nice boost, the ones that are out now are severely memory limited. But they need a real nextgen, a new 8800GTX, and they needed it months ago to be fair. But that's business for us all.

im fairly certain the fan wont be over the top loud, both ati and nvidia have learnt a lot in cooling solutions over the past gpu generations, considering they must cool such a powerful solution, i think theyre doing very well.

I'm sure it will be a good (possibly amazing ala 8800 gen) card, afterall they have had a long time to work on it and iron out any issues and they must have quite a bit of cash in the bank after their recent successes.

But the post near the top about it being hot, noisy and drawing loads of power not mattering at all as long as it is the fastest around isn't quite true imo....well not for everyone.

For example (and I am sure I am in no way unique/special) I buy a card based on the mix of all those things (power consumption, heat...well noise actually..., performance) and cost. Notice no reference to number of cores or pcbs!

Yes...yes....I know, I am a 'value-consious green-gamer'...possibly the most difficult person/market to target (due to that magic ratio being entirely subjective!).

Funny that because my 2900xt rarely ever exceeded 80c load. Which is about the same as a gtx...

It isn't Fud bull, nVidia are unlikely to do a die shrink and an architecture change in one jump. so although ATI are on 55NM they will stick with 65 so it is going to be hotter than a G92 obviously as that is 65nm and a less powerful core.

It aint rocket science my nubletts.

They better hurry up, it should be out now if they had followed the traditional release schedule. It should have 1GB of RAM and a 512 bit memory bus.

Also looking forward to the 9600GT which will be rockin a 256 bus, should be nice assuming the M version is the same, finally a small laptop that has some grunt. :)
