Quick question for my old man.

He's had a Mazda RX8 sitting in his drive for about 2 years. He drove it the other day and it was stuttery (for want of a better word).

Someone's told him that you can buy something to add to the petrol that will clean all the injectors and give it a clean inside.

We know nothing about cars. Does anyone know what the best stuff is please?

Sounds like the fuel is just off having not been used for a while, so a fresh new tank would be all that it needs and a bit of hard driving - don't forget to check the oil levels!

Off topic, I'd have thought a car like the RX8 would probably prefer higher quality fuel like 97+ RON? I know my car shouldn't be run on 95. However most fuels now have cleaners in them IIRC.

Maybe try a couple of full tanks of VPower - it won't be much more expensive than buying a fuel additive.

It's most likely the fuel and all the other crap that's in the fuel tank at the moment. Probably best to get it drained out and put some fresh fuel in. If it's already low on fuel fill it up so the old mixes with the new

Do you mean higher octane. Octane doesn't equal quality.

2 years is ages for fuel, it will have started to break down and gum up

Thanks guys, great help. My dads gonna run the last of the old fuel off round the block a few times then tomorrow we're gonna fill it up with V-Power Nitro and run it down to Maidstone as we need to go there anyway.

I've just got to convince him to put his foot down. He really don't like doing it which probably don't help a car like that. He's never even heard the change gear beep it makes!

You should probably take the wheel then :p

Just go for a long drive to use up the old fuel. Additives? Put one of the common-or-garden ones in it won't do any harm. Even after 6 months the petrol makes my mower hard to start.
