Fuel gauge doesnt seem to be doing much

Even diesels with lift pumps can take an age to start again after running out without priming it. Get air in the high pressure side and you can easily flatten a battery trying to get it going.

This^^

Have had to rescue fellow colleagues who have over estimated how many miles they have in a tank and it ain't fun in the winter up a mountain.

I have also seen many diesel and petrol cars kill the lift pump when run dry. It's really not worth the risk at all.

450 miles

I get about 150 miles to a tank..:(

Tank size will ofc factor but I only drive a piddly 1.4 Corolla, and most of those are motorway miles (which gives surprisingly good fuel economy considering 5th at 70 is 3.9k rpm). Barge-like execs can get better mileage than my thing nowadays though!

Once had an old mazda that didnt register any amount below 1/4 of a tank, once had it go from 1/4 to completely empty even the reserves gone without the engine running.

Touch wood every motor ive had since has been on the button, even if the beamers estimated 400 miles to a full tank is ever so slightly optimistic

I had a Golf mk4 that had one particular fuel level that it wouldn't register. So the first half a tank was fine. then it would hit a certain spot and not register any petrol at all. Then after another qauter of a tank it would register again. Googling showed it to be a faulty sensor in the tank. Maybe this is similar?

I've had the opposite once. Going down like normal until I was basically on fumes with less than 30km predicted. It suddenly stared going up, both the fuel gauge and the predicted mileage left. I think it ended up at around 200km left and not far off a quarter of a tank when I got to the pump. I ended up putting in around 108L of fuel so it was pretty damn empty!

Otherwise it's the usual, I can do about 100+km and not see the gauge move if I've brimmed the tank.

My 2.2d mazda 3 will do 90 miles before bars move. Then it's 30-40 miles per bar till half way then 20 per bar lol.

The obc tells me I can do 550 miles to the tank. But in reality it will do 420-450.

(42-45mpg)

I get 200-250 out of my mazda 3 2.0 lol so I'd say your z4 is doing alright ;)

my avg is 25.4mpg

Fuelio tells me if i'm doing mainly motorway miles on a tank i'll get about 24-30mpg, if it's just around town & commuting, it's closer to 17MPG... Mazda 3 MPS though, still don't know how to drive it slow :D

And this is why I don't own an MPS.... shocking fuel use for a car that's only 40 bhp more powerful..

I get 60mpg can do 0-60 in 3.5 seconds and don't get stuck in traffic. I win.

Yes we're ignoring the fact I also get cold, wet, roasting and splattered when it all goes wrong
