Fuel & VAT increase

£50 to fill up + 2.5% = £51.25 to fill up

That isn't right, you are paying 2.5% more VAT, not 2.5% more on the whole lot.

(50 / 1.15) * 1.175 = 51.09. I don't know why everyone seem to get that wrong, but anyway it's an even smaller difference when calculated properly.

So we have to drive everywhere at 50Mph, in a Chevy Matiz and I'm only allowed to go round to the shops. Great.
Urgh. I had one of those as a loan car. It was awful. Really really awful.

I would love to be able to afford an economical diesel. But I just dont have a couple of thousand pounds in my pocket to be able to upgrade my car.

Of course you can do whatever you want. I'm just saying no point complaining about increases in fuel duty with respect to cost of motoring when it's trivial in comparison to aspects you are in control of.

I guess it's just natural to get upset about the small things you can't control and ignore the large things you can control 'cos people don't like to change their own habits.

Ok it's a small increase, but it's the way it has been done. give with one hand, take twice as much with the other.

I'm currently using roughly a tank every 10 days so it works out at £45p/a. And I'll soon be doing twice the mileage :(

Not a huge amount I'll admit but every time that **** sticks 2p or 2% or whatever he feels like next it's another £45 a year. Soon adds up.

Crikey £45 a year?! How will you put food on the table?

Sod the 2.5% VAT, i seen in the paper this morning that fuel has gone up about 10p in the last year, i think petrol has gone up even more.

Its not the 2p increases we're complaining about, its the amount of 2p increases hidden under various excuses. And the fact that 70% of the price of fuel is tax!!

I do like the justification that it is alright to tax the motorist blind because it is possible to save a few quid by driving slower on the motorway . I really want water companies to start charging through the roof so people can come out of the woodwork and say "lol, shower less".

It's never gone down.

Why would they when we they've created a blackhole the size of about £100bn in our finances?

Motorists... saving New Labour's arse over and over again, since 1997.

Let's be fair about this: the Fuel Escalator was invented by the Tories, and when they get back in you can simply look forward to much the same as you have now.

Until last year duty hadn't even kept up with inflation, the cost of motoring has fallen in real terms under the Labour government (notice how half the students these days can afford cars!).

Why must something that already cost far too much keep up with inflation, why can we not have a motoring cost similar to the USA?

Great stuff, hopefully it will keep all the poor people off the roads so I can drive faster !! ;):D
