Been looking to purchase this camera after reading many many reviews and seeing countless recommendations of this camera for the low price. I know this camera has been about since late of last year, so I am thinking, would it be a wise time to buy or do you expect a product refresh anytime soon?

I'm really thinking about getting this this weekend, shame that OcUK doesn't stock it :(

What are your thoughts?

Got this yesterday, its an ace camera, haven't had chance to test it fully but the shots I am getting so far are really pleasing. I was worried that the electronic view finder but its better than I was expecting. The manual focus is a bit fiddly but the ring is way better than having to press buttons like on other cameras. The only other thing is iPhoto doesn't support fuji's RAW file format but if your not a Mac user then you should be fine.

Bottom line, and ace camera for the money!

Heh Macbook of joy :( but then BootCamp wins! :)

Well, going to get one over the weekend then! Can't wait to get some better pictures than my camera on my phone...

There have been no indications of an upgrade to either the 6500 or the 9600. Fuji did announce a batch of new cams recently including the 8000 but no news on the manual focus bridge models. I doubt whether they can sell them at a low enough price to compete with dSLRs now. The 6500 is a great buy at the moment because the price has been cut so much from launch price. I think at the full price most of the target market would go straight for a dSLR and if they reduce the price to get sales then they probably won't make proft on a camera as well made as the 6500. Fuji recently admitted that their camera division was only breaking even and that hence they are reorganising it.

If you think the 6500 will suit you then I would buy it. If they do release an update it will cost a lot more, won't have a sensor that is as good at high iso. The major 'problem' of the 6500 is that it doesn't have IS. Fuji have added IS to the f50 but it is not supposed to work very well so isn't really worth waiting for.

Thanks for the advice, and this has pretty much made up my mind!
Going tomorrow to get it from a store with the purple shirts, 3 stores sold out, 1 80miles away has it!

Did you get it? Only I am curious to what type of xD card you got, type M or type H?

I am wondering cause I got an olympus type M and sometimes when viewing my photo's back on the camera I get read errors. Do you get this as well?

I just bought the camera after seeing how close it was to my newly purchased S5700 pricewise (returned now). The 6500fd is a lovely model, not had the chance to fully check it out yet either tbh. I'm using a type M 2GB Fuji xD on mine and its fine.

Got it - and then got a type H 2GB from my local supermarket, having great fun with it recently! Will put up some pictures soon! :D
