Hi,

Does anyone know what the build quality is like on Fujitsu laptops? I have been offered one by a friend, and before I make plans to go and take a look at it, I want to know if it would even be worth the trip? Are they built well? or flimsy and likley to fall apart?

Thanks

I have one of my friend's Amilo 2512 sitting on the table next to me totally dismantled so i could get to the motherboard. The reason why is that one of the solder joints on DC Power Jack broke off from the motherboard its not charging the battery or receiving any power. A few people are having this problem because the jack is not held in place good enough so when you insert or remove the adapter it would move it back and forth so eventually the solder joint would snap.

Unfortunate his warranty just ran out but I managed to solder it back on, I just need to figure out how to put the darn thing back together again.

But in general is it good build quality or is it pap?

cheers

It's ok, nothing amazing but not the worst. I used to have a Xi 1546 which luckily didn't have any problems, but it did have to go back several times before I got one that 'just worked' which was largely down to issues with the sound/gpu.

Just my experience with that model and a few others though.

its alright, the screen is good and its quiet most of the time. forgot to mention last year I had to get the dvd repaired under warranty as the laptop wasn't recognising it and the tray would not close. I think spent around 2 hours on the phone with their support (had to call them twice as no one came to collect at the arranged date) my virgin bill for the call was around £12 :(

Well that's my experience with them anyways but don't let that put you off.

just noticed your from Cardiff also :P

Yep born and raised, I use to live in Cathays but now moved to Grangetown as its close to where I work (County Hall)

I've worked on and sold many of them and they've always been very reliable as long as they're treated with some respect. Had a few instances of dead hard drives on more battered machines. Also had an amilo pro screen fail due to someone handwriting on paper directly on top of it.

Apart from that, great.
