Hello ladies and gents,

My university grant just cleared... So it's laptop time. I've been losing sleep over what one to choose, Dell seemed good but, the 1330 is a little pricey for what you get (I'm looking for a 13.3" screen for around £700).

This caught my sleep depraved eye, Fujitsu si 2636 £700.

Windows Vista® Home Premium
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T8100(2.1GHz) processor (800MHz FSB / 3MB SLC):
2GB Memory
1GB Intel® Turbo Memory
Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 with up to 348MB shared video memory
13.3" TFT LCD WXGA+ BrilliantView display (1280x800).
250GB S-ATA (5400 RPM)hard disk drive
4-in-1 Memory Card Reader
Wireless LAN a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.0, and 10/100/1000 LAN.
built-in Super Multi Format DVD burner with double layer support and integrated webcam and microphone and speakers.
3 x USB (2.0) ports

A good buy?

Thanks in advance,

any reason why your wanting a 13.3"? its just those are abit more expensive. as for the spec it appears that must be a recently made laptop as its got the T8100 which is a Penryn (new Core 2 Duo's) i think for the spec i'd hope for better graphics, what graphics does the 1330 you specified include? overall not a bad machine, the fujitsu's lack firewire and s-video usually aswell as the option of a higher res (1440x900) which may concern you.

Thanks for the quick answer.

The machine went on the market yesterday, graphics wise... Long as it runs eve online i'm cool (I have a high grade games machine).

I wanted a small machine I can lug around for mainly study, mobile web access, some basic graphics editing/web design (just for fun).

Dells 1330 for lower spec worked out £150+ more, not including graphics card.

Seems like the best option for £700 (as far as I currently know).

Agree with the above, if you don't need that screen size you can do better for your money, especially the graphics. I guess it's not for gaming though?

hmm i dont know much about eve online other than its a MMORPG but i dont think the X3100 Intel graphics would be upto it perhaps. EDIT : just checked it recommends a ATI x1900 series or Nvidia Equivalent, so really you need something like a 8600GT to play Eve comfortably

True I could do better for the £, but I'm looking for the very portable side of things.. I study molecular science with the open university/plus work full time so I have to study from where ever I am.

eve online has a low res client, mainly cpu intensive (switch to the high res shinny graphics client when on my beast of a pc).

Any one know a few alternative I could take a look at?

p.s thanks again

I had a change of heart, Just went to the dark side and ordered a XPS 1330 (T7250/2gigs ram/8400 graphics card/9 cell battery)... £710

I thought the newer processor didn't compensate for the graphics card.

Any one think that I should call back and try and haggle for a lower price, I know it's possible... or is that as good a deal as it gets?

I picked up a m1330, arrived last week same spec as yours and i got it for 655 quid. although i did order it at the end of jan, and i got a discount through my employer.
