I'm digging out the classics intending to do a full run from the start of BG1 + TotSC then BG2 + ToB. Should keep me busy for a few months with about 400+ hours of gameplay

Can anyone recommend me any required mods? IIRC there's one which allows you to play BG1 with the BG2 engine??

Then I've just gotta decide on a class...I remember starting BG2 with my old BG1 Warrior - your a lot more powerful than you really should be, so I ended up storming around the first dungeon in my pants gibbing everything with a crappy 2H sword I'd picked up :D
Think it'll either be a Legolas-style archer/dual wield ranger, or a pure mage which I cant remember ever finding in an NPC.

Anyway....mod suggestions for both games appriciated :)

I love the The Darkest Day for BG2. I've never been one to fit into the pre-defined standard classes, as my play style is a bit more of a mix of different classes, covered by some of the full D&D styles, which TDD adds, amongst other things:

10 New and Returning (from BG1) NPC's
180+ New Items
170+ New Spells
39+ New Creatures
75 New Kits
40+ Minor Quests
5 Major Quests
1 Mega Quest
Over 30 hours estimated minimum added game play!

never has been any game like Baldurs gate, its has a spirit that no game can match :D

are you going to get all the pants so you can make the stone golom and frag grenades ???????

I'm not personally a fan of the Baldurs Gate/ Neverwinter Nights series. Find a copy of Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor for a much, much better game. (Albeit limited mostly to the innards of a very huge dungeon)

omg i loved those games....

neverwinter nights with a monk was just hardcore... he started off weak but near the end of the game he had fists of bruce lee and just decimated everything that the game through at him. i remember facing the hardest red dragon in the game and u were supposed to give him something to make him a lot weaker. i thought bugger that, stocked up on some potions and took him on one v one. mad monk style.... he didnt last long :)

after that the final boss was a bit of a disappointment...

i also remember playing bg2 with a dual katana weilding samurai type dude. it was funny seeing him fight cos in the end it just ended up being a gib fest :)

I take it then you've heard the good news?

BioWare are doing an MMO.

BG and BG2 followed with cutesy graphics and the D&D rules etc, thats what I loved, maybe Bioware can make something good WoW and Dungeons and Dragons online game don't really entice me to want to touch MMO's.

go for the eyes Boo!

God i loved these games. Was a bit upset with BG2 because the girl rogue who was captured was one of my main chars in BG1 and i leveled her up and got loads of good gear for her and then couldnt really play her the same way in BG2, they changed her character too much :( BG2 was just huge though, i dont think i ever finnished it, might have to find a cheap copy and replay it again now :)

Baldur's Gate series, Fallout series and Torment... The golden era of CRPGs. Nothing's come close since.

KotoR has tried and now we've got Oblivion, but I don't expect it to come close in scripting, style and storyline as it's just such a different type of game, much more open. Looking forward to Dragon Age from Bioware some time in the next couple of years though and it was a shame Lionheart sucked :)

Damn you all! :D

Just got myself all nice and cosy with Morrowind (again!) and you go and tell me you can get mods for Baldurs Gate! My wife will also curse you all cos she has just finished it and has now just got back into Sims 2!

I never got on with Torment. I made it outside the dungeon/prison or whatever it was called and then gave up! Have I missed a lot with this game?

Get outta here...! Fair enough if you prefer PoR, but its certainly not a better game...

BG2 is the best pure RPG you can get. Still. Looking forward to Dragon Age

Blimey, wish I'd known about the BG1-in-BG2 mod when I started my BG Odyssey a few weeks back!

It's well worth getting the "Ease of Use" mod pack for BG2, it removes a lot of the annoyances and unfair/unwanted bits and pieces. It also allows much more flexible multi-classing if you're not a D&D purist.

Oblivion is going to be good, but I have a feeling it will never fit into my shortlist of "Best ever games"..... luminaries such as Jagged Alliance 2, Ultima Underword 2, BG1/2 and Planescape: Torment.

Oh and Apopcalyptic- Ten days is not enough!
