Full Fibre Upgrade wooo!

My last post...

Just to say it deffo is a lot snappier, so was probably playing up yesterday and I didn't notice!

Just ordered 15m Cat 8 flat braided for £12 :D
Recommend upgrading an old cable then @Neil79? City Fibre is now live in our street, landlord has gave me permission to have it installed. looking forward to the jump from 67mb to 900mb :) Might try to get back into online gaming... been a while ('Wireplay' era lol).

Not really looking forward to choosing from all the isps though, did you just randomly pick Zen or do some thorough research?

Yours might be perfectly fine, but for piece of mind I would!

VOIETOLT Cat 8 Ethernet Cable 15M, High-Speed 40Gbps/2000Mhz Flat Braided Internet Cable, Gigabit STP RJ45 Network Cable Compatible for PS4/5, for Modem, PC/Laptop

I bought that from the rain forest ;)

Okay, I've been reading about cat6, cat 8 etc, I've found an unopened Cable Matters cat 6 one, I'll try that when the time comes :)

Not sure if anyone reading this has You Tube content, but if so, are you happy with the speed your 4k videos get put up? :)

CAT8 is completely pointless and that stuff probably isn’t great. You want good quality CAT5e or CAT6 at most - both going to do multi gigabit easily.

But it works perfectly, and was just what I needed... Wasn't excessive in price either.

"Probably isnt great" without testing it?

Depends on if you mean having fibre and uploading, or if it needs to be on Zen (which has async upload speeds vs download).

Here, on Community Fibre 1g sync, I often find that my upload is stalled by Youtube servers (they throttle the speed), so my 30GB video that should take about 5 minutes gets onto their servers from 10 to 15 minutes instead (sometimes even more, but that's usually more the Youtube servers issue at that point). For a 100mbps upload (like in OP's case via Zen), you're going to be looking at near an hour to upload a 30GB 4k video file. Not bad, but can be better of course. If you're just uploading for a casual channel, it'll be fine. If you're uploading for a slightly more serious level of investment channel, then you might want something a little faster for the upload side.

Yeah, any fibre with a fast connection in general, I didn't know You Tube throttled the speed, but your timing examples aren't too bad for me. It's just for a future travel blog, I guess I could train myself to make videos that are quite short and episodic.

We don't seem to get Community fibre here in Dewsbury, there are a few other isps that are missing from the seach engines. I'm at a point where I'm deciding if I want to pay £30 or £40 for the same thing. I guess I should scroll down a few more pages to see that recommendations there are. I'm about cautious that cheapest doesn't necessarily mean best.

Your other option is of course to upload the day before and set a schedule for release. That way, you don't need to upload there and then unless if it's something urgent that needs views there and then. And of course, you're less restricted by upload speeds or if Youtube if throttling your speeds (either due to new account, small channel account, servers swamped, etc).
