Can anyone recommend or point me in the direction of a freebie app for doing this?...

Got some old hard drives i'm looking at, but they have personal data on them and i'm not confident selling or passing them on with a chance of data retrieval, so would like a nice little app i can use from windows to do a decent wipe.

Any help appreciated guys....

should have checked the link first, sorry as i said i need something i can use from windows or my main rig is gonna be down for ages while it wipes these old drives, they're not the fastest of drives.

most HD companys have there own Zero app. Go to the maker and DL it. works every time for me. All load from a floppy and work a treat.

EDIT: just read needs to be in windows, well they also do windows apps too, but tbh nothing beats Dos.

Slinwagh thanx for mentioning the guttman method, it narrowed down my google searchs a hell of a lot, i think i've found a popular freeware app now.

Thanx all for suggestions this far.

:( App i found also uses a bootable disk.... grrrrr

Looks like i'll have to do it using a bootable then... :(

Whoops, was soo quick to post i didnt look properly, it works in windows....

Free app, simply called Eraser. Pass 1 of 1..... so far.... 21 minutes remain... fingers crossed.

Not sure if its enough, will soon know though, going to try and retrieve after.... hehehehe
