Full HD 1080p Query

Is an HDMI connection to a monitor necessary for full 1080p or can DVI-I produce the same quality, just without audio?

HDMI, VGA, DVI and DisplayPort will all do 1080p.

HDMI is the only one which will carry audio as well.

DisplayPort can carry an audio signal but I don't think this is implemented on PC's.

FYI a lot of monitors have a DVI-D connection not DVI-I.

A DVI-I cable won't fit in a DVI-D socket.
