Hi, PC died nearly 2 years ago and thinking about a new one. Not up to date with new platforms so would like some builds as used this forum to help me before and was great.

It's a full build for gaming and surfing inet but please exclude keyboard, mouse and headset. Budget aiming for £1k and an absolute maximum of £1.5k. Looking for micro atx, large monitor (solid refresh rate) and small micro case with good airflow and willing to spend on good psu. Intel hardware and Nvidia cards, os 64bit, m.2 for OS and a main HD.

Hit me up with ideas and will see cheers

you'd probably get more bang/buck out of a ryzen 3700x system.
at your budget 9700k would probably perform better now, but 8c8t will get old very quick. 9900k 8c16t is probably out of budget range.
ryzen 3700x 8c16t would provide the best compromise. slightly slower now, but better longevity.
i wouldn't even bother considering any of the intel 6c6t parts. they're literally not worth buying.

Maybe pair it out with a 5700XT, they're currently around £350 but in all fairness, you'd likely want a graphics card of around that price or better to really get the system to shine.

The reference navi cooler aint too bad, its a lot better than previous AMD reference noise makers - but then if the OP waits for a few more weeks the non reference faster models will be out.
I dont see the 2070s being worth the premium unless you want a gsync monitor, even then its a bit of a hard price to swallow.

sure it may be less of a turd, but it's still a turd. :p

indeed one can play the waiting game

2070S can run freesync, so gsync is a non-issue, really...

even then its a bit of a hard price to swallow.
it's currently £100 difference between 2070S with aftermarket cooler and 5700xt with stock cooler...i suspect we can be adding £30-50ish to the price of the 5700xt with aftermarket cooler.
the price differential is definitely there...is it excessive? well...i'd rather not pay it :D

comparing a stock 2070S to watercooled OC 5700XT.
average OC performance gain for 2070S is ~7-8% so add that on to 2070S graph to approximate OC vs OC performance.
AIB 5700xt probably wouldn't OC as high as it's not in a custom water loop - so best case scenario for the 5700xt vs average 2070S
