Full spec please Overclock-ites

Unfortunately my mums laptop has finally given way, the power connector inside the pc itself is knackered and just wont contact with the cable, so for now im putting this pc downstairs for everyone to use.

So instead of my original plans of just upgrading, im going to be saving for a full, new system when im back in work (hopefully soon after some good news yesterday).

When i say i need everything, i mean, everything, just say i dont have anything to do with a pc whatsoever.

My budget? I dont have one yet because ill be saving towards a suitible specification, obviously nothing silly like a 10 grand super computer, maybe 1-2kish but be reasonable

Id like an i7 D0 system, not too interested in 2x graphics cards in SLi or CrossFire, a single card will do but itd be nice to have the option available to be honest.

Monitor, keyboard, case etc needed though.

Will be playing games, cod4 etc would be nice to play full whack smoothly, multitasking, photoshop and web creation

How does this look, some parts are personal choice, ie case and monitor, you might want a 22" or 24" also left the keyboard and mouse

I actually quite like the look of that sir. pretty quick too i must add

When it comes to cases im not particularly fussed about windows but i like the look of the silverstone fortress, so cable management would be a nice project for me. Do corsair do any cheap(er) modular PSUs to cut down on the amount of cables?

Looking at the Fortress thread in the case section people recommended non modular as all the cables come out one side rather than accross the whole psu so it was easier to hide the cables.

Corsair cheapest modular is the 450w @ �65.00 or the 520w @ �83.00. Alternate makes are OCZ and Coolermaster.

CPU cooler the Akasa is good, Overclockers use them on there builds or the Noctua.

Whats this 295 im reading about at the minute? I take it its a good card but is it worth the price tag o_O

I don't, I would like to upgrade

I'm running a E8600 with a Gigabyte X38-DS5 motherboard.

The 295 in my opionion is expensive, the ATI 4870 X 2 is only slightly slower and save a few pounds

Edit: Some other boards to look out for are the Gigabyte UD4P & UD5.

This is the full spec, this system will destroy anything you throw at it ~

Change the mobo/keyboard/mouse if money is an issue, but apart from that this system build is perfect.

Ooo Blu Ray, do these burn DL DVDs or would it be a good idea to get a drive of each? Id quite like the idea of a blu ray player cheers for reminding me that theyre there

The sony blu-ray drive doesn't burn anything, just a player. If you do stick with that you need to get a DVD-RW drive aswell to do the burning. An alternative is the LG blu-ray drive, which will burn and play pretty much anything, it also supports HD-DVD (I know it's a dead tech but I managed to pick up cheap HD-DVD's a while back, not too sure on how easy it would be to get them now though).

This Blu-Ray player can burn DVDs as well.

Ha, i know how you feel when i had an HD player for the 360, gamestation were selling stock of HD DVDs for a few quid each so i bought a load while they were still around but im quite taken with blu ray too.

Icey, I really like that spec actually, the G15 reminded me that my friend is giving me his when he gets the new one, whichever it is, the one overclockers have in stock now, so hopefully wont need a keyboard included.

Since you’re getting a D0 stepping CPU I presume you’re going to overclock, if so I would suggest the Boistar X58 motherboard which is ideal. For everything else I would use icy haj’s spec.

Should deal a knockout blow to anything you throw at it.

I would stick with the Asus board, the D0 will still overclock like a beast with it, even though the Biostar is good.

Does one have better arguments for it or is it just personal preference? Personally id never heard of biostar before i joined here so i suspect itd be better to go with the manufacturer with the best support ie. driver updates etc?

Some of the above post are very helpful and are probably going to be more help than me but i recommend a dual screen setup - Very helpful especially when working with photoshop.

Also a wireless keyboard and mouse
