As the title suggests, does anyone know a decent program that converts video files into fullscreen iphone 4 video? Just tried Prism and AVS convertors the quality was there but it has quite large black bars on the top and bottom. Being such a small display i must have video playback in fullscreen. P.S the software maximise button didnt enlarge it but it would on youtube videos. Help appreciated :)

Thanks.

did the video have bars on your pc before you converted it ?

Windowed video fills edge to edge but in fullscreen mode i do have black bars, but could that be my monitor 1920x1200 rez?

Can't you just press the Zoom button?

Wasn't doing anything.

So if the video doesnt fill my monitor with full edge to edge picture then it wont convert to iphone fullscreen? So i dont see a way around this if its true. Unless someone knows of a super duper program to convert with.

you need to crop/resize in a way which removes the black bars but i have no experience of it. this will involve either stretching the aspect ratio or ending up with bits from the sides missing. however for me the quicktime/video app on my phone usually does that second method itself if i press zoom

out of interest have you tried playing the videos (both converted and unconverted) using VLC player on your iphone ? its free

this might explain it better

Widescreen movies on an ipod (as well as on non-widescreen TV's) show black borders on top and bottom. To make the movie fullscreen, parts of the side of the movie need to be cut off (cropped).
Most ipods have a zoom function which will zoom in to the full height of the movie rather than to adjust it to fit. This also cuts off the sides of the movie.

Cropping will keep the aspect ratio, but you loose some of the actual movie. In the past, movies have been made with this in mind (for tv viewing), and all the action is usually in the center area of the screen, but more recent movies are more made for wide-screen viewing.

DVD movies themselves have the black borders hardcoded in the movie, and not all DVD or video converters can remove these easily (if you play the movie on a computer, you will see if the black bars are hardcoded). When you watch a movie with hardcoded black borders on an ipod, the zoom will not work properly, because the black bars are part of the movie file.

that's pretty much what i was suspecting. damn i would have thought they would be a nifty little converter to get around this.

I think also i might of converted the video to old iphone resolution (using AVS converter) so maybe that would give me larger than normal black bars, seeing as the iphone 4 resolution is higher then its previous models.

Nope havent tried but saw VLC app is out so i will try asap.

Thanks for your help Andy :)
